FIDE joins the Sport Integrity Global Alliance
Last week, at its General Assembly, the Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) unanimously approved FIDE’s application to become a full member of the organization.
SIGA is an independent non-profit organization established with one purpose: to ensure that the sports industry is conducted to the highest standards of integrity, free from any form of unethical, illegal and criminal activity, that protects sporting values and ensures their positive impact and Benefits for all citizens.
“Joining such a prestigious sports organization as a member is an excellent opportunity to improve the governance of FIDE even further. This opportunity is also a challenge: although much progress has been made in recent years, we can continue to support FIDE under the leadership of SIGA make it a more robust organization as they have the highest standards in the sports industry,” said the FIDE President, Arkady Dvorkovich. “We are grateful that our membership was unanimously accepted at their General Assembly and we will do our utmost to meet their requirements,” he added.
Founded in 2017 by 20 major sports organizations (sports federations, governments, anti-corruption NGOs, intergovernmental organizations and trading partners), SIGA is today the largest independent and neutral multi-stakeholder coalition for governance and integrity in sport. With over 100 members, dedicated supporters and partners from the world of sport, government, international organizations, business and civil society, SIGA has a crucial mission: to advance the adoption, implementation, monitoring and independent evaluation of Universal Standards on Sports Integrity in four key areas :
- Good leadership in sport;
- Financial Integrity and Transparency in Sport;
- Sports Betting Integrity; And
- youth development and protection.
SIGA provides independent global ratings and certifications for world sport to ensure it is governed and operated to the highest standards of integrity: The SIGA universal standards.
In addition, the establishment of SIGA’s Independent Rating and Verification System (SIRVS)operated by an independent third party, overseeing the implementation of key reforms, is the game changer, giving those who invest in sport peace of mind that the sports facilities they support are of the highest standards of integrity.
