FIFA 23 incorrectly listed for bargain price with EA Sports to honour ‘spectacular own-goal’

A number of football fans have managed to pre-order FIFA 23 for just six cents after a “spectacular own goal” by EA Sports.

In July, the upcoming video game was mislisted on the Epic Games Store in India.

Due to a currency conversion error, the FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition was temporarily pre-ordered at the low price of £4.80 ($0.06) instead of £4,799 ($60).

Fans in India and abroad quickly made the best of the mistake and shared their success on social media.

To their credit, EA Sports has since acknowledged the mistake, stating that they will redeem the previous prize for those who were able to cash in.

“A few weeks ago we scored a pretty spectacular own goal when we accidentally offered the pre-order for FIFA 23 on the Epic Games Store at the wrong price,” EA Sports said in a statement quoted by PC Gamer.

“It was our fault and we wanted you to know that we will honor all pre-purchases at this price.”

FIFA 23 Standard Edition vs. Ultimate Edition

As with previous versions, FIFA 23 will feature three different editions that fans can purchase: the Standard Edition, the Ultimate Edition, and the Legacy Edition.

That standard edition will cost $59.99 (£59.99), which is in line with most major video game releases.

That Ultimate edition costs $99.99 (£89.99) but allows the user to access the game three days early on the pre-release date. It also comes with the following:

advantages default Ultimate
Team of the Week 1 Player Item (non-tradable) ✔️ ✔️
Loaned by Kylian Mbappe ✔️ ✔️
FUT Ambassador Loan Player Selection ✔️ ✔️
Career Mode Own Talent ✔️ ✔️
FUT Ones to Watch items ✔️
4,600 FIFA Points ✔️
FIFA World Cup FUT Hero (on pre-order) ✔️
Three days early access (for pre-orders) ✔️

That legacy edition costs $39.99 (£34.99) and is a recall of previous versions with updated rosters, but “with no new development or significant improvements,” confirmed EA Sports.

This mainly applies to the Nintendo Switch, which is only available in the Legacy Edition. It does not come with the new HyperMotion 2 technological improvements or any of the new game modes. Essentially, this is FIFA 22 with a few minor upgrades.
