FIFA 23: New teams, new stadiums in the game this year

FIFA 23 promises a host of new additions and tweaks to last year’s game.

One of the most notable differences between the editions is the presence of new teams and stadiums.

FIFA 23 will deliver massively on this front as some iconic clubs and venues return to the EA Sports franchise.

It’s not all good news, however, as some teams will disappear from FIFA 22 or have new names.

New teams in FIFA 23

FIFA 23 marks the long-awaited return of Juventus to the game.

The Italian giants were previously licensed by Konami and known as Piemonte Calcio in recent FIFA releases.

Women’s football also gets a much bigger presence in FIFA 23, with the addition of clubs from the Women’s Super League and Division 1 Arkema for the first time.

English Fifth Division fans can finally play as these clubs too as the Vanarama National League joins the game.

It’s also likely that every national team that has qualified for the 2022 World Cup will be included in the game, meaning some new international sides will be there.

New stadiums in FIFA 23

Five new stadiums have been added to FIFA 23, four of which are returning after absences.

Stadio Olimpico, Camp Nou, Allianz Arena and Allianz Stadium are all back this year, having previously been exclusive to eFootball.

Nottingham Forest’s City Ground Stadium is the only all-new addition after they sealed a return to the Premier League for the 2022-23 season.

Which teams will not be in FIFA 23?

While Juventus is in FIFA 23, a multitude of Serie A clubs will not appear in their true form.

Roma, Lazio, Atalanta, Napoli and Inter Milan are all licensed elsewhere and will therefore appear under different names in FIFA 23.

Mexico and Japan’s top division clubs, Liga MX and J-League, will also reportedly be absent from the new game, meaning teams from those competitions will be absent.

There will also be no Russian teams in FIFA 23 after EA Sports decided to exclude them due to their invasion of Ukraine.

“EA Sports stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and joins so many voices in the world of football in calling for peace and an end to the invasion of Ukraine,” the statement said.

“In line with our partners at FIFA and UEFA, EA Sports will not be adding the Russian national team or Russian clubs to FIFA 23.”

Why wasn’t Juventus in FIFA before? Piemonte Calcio explained

In 2019, Juventus inked a deal with Konami’s eFootball Pro Evolution Soccer to appear exclusively in this soccer video game franchise.

As a result, the Italian giants have been known as Piemonte Calcio in FIFA matches since 2020.

The name means “Piemonte Football” in English, with Peimonte being an Italian region where Juventus is based.

As well as the name, FIFA also had to provide a different club crest, kit and stadium for Juventus during this period.
