Bugsy Malone production a resounding success

After months of rehearsals, 150 students from grades 7 through 13 took part in the school production of Bugsy Malone from Tuesday, January 31 to Friday, February 3.

Commenting on the remarkable success of the production, Teddington School drama teacher Ms K. Jenkinson said, “The students worked hard for hours and it really paid off in the end. It was a joy to see them bond together as a team, supporting, coaching and mentoring each other across the two line-ups and celebrating each other’s accomplishments.

“It’s amazing to see the dedication and dedication that students bring to just having fun. We also had alumni who came back to support us on the show.”

She continued, “The students made us proud and really understood what it means to be part of a production. For me it’s about inclusion: If you want to participate, you’re in. It’s a show for the students by the students and that’s all I love about being a teacher.”

Taiwanese integration program

In February, 33 students from Taiwan were also welcomed into the Teddington School community.

During their time at Teddington, the Taiwanese students attended four TEDdington TALKS, watched the Bugsy Malone performance, and participated in a series of Key Stage 4 and five lessons.

The visit provided students with an insightful comparison of cultural differences in education, and a classic football game ended the two-week visit.

Sought! Parents volunteer for the 1:1 reading program

In September 2021, Teddington School launched a catch-up reading program for students entering Year 7 with a low reading age.

The community-focused program is supported by parents, teaching assistants and 6th grade students who work with a student twice a week and listen to them read for 15-20 minutes.

The school currently needs more adults for the program and encourages parents to get involved.

Volunteer parents receive a short training session before working with a student and listening to them twice a week for 15-20 minutes between 8:35am and 9:00am

The school is looking for parents willing to volunteer for a minimum of 6 weeks and ideally a full 12 weeks.
