Game preview about Aasim Hashim

Toronto FC’s next three games could play a crucial role in determining whether the club has a realistic chance of reaching the playoffs.

The Reds begin their all-important week by hosting the New England Revolution Wednesday night. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST and can be followed on TSN.

Currently, Toronto sits 12th in the Eastern Conference with 29 points, four points behind Inter Miami, who are currently bottom of the playoffs. Over the course of the next week, the Reds will take on clubs that are in close proximity – the Revolution on Wednesday night, a trip to Inter Miami on Saturday and then a visit to Charlotte the following Saturday.

With the Reds’ current run and squad growing together with every passing game, this stretch of play comes at great time for the club. The Reds are 3-1-0 in their last four MLS games, including a 0-0 draw with the Revs at Gillette Stadium. In fact, the Reds have not lost a 90-minute game since the debut of Italian duo Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi, with their only loss coming on penalties in the 2022 Canadian Championship final.

In their four unbeaten games in the league, the Reds have also shown that their defensive side of the game has greatly improved after conceding four goals in four games, with three of the four conceding leading to a 4-3 win in Nashville , the Reds’ first MLS road win of the season.

Favored by head coach Bob Bradley along with Richie Laryea and Domenico Criscito, center-back duo Chris Mavinga and Lukas MacNaughton have found a rhythm in the last three games and despite the short turnaround, that defensive line will in all likelihood retain their spots for the matchup on Wednesday.

Toronto came out of their weekend matchup unscathed with no new players added to the injury list. The Reds are still without Noble Okello and Quentin Westberg (upper body) for Wednesday’s matchup, while Mark-Anthony Kaye remains questionable with a lower body injury.

The Reds’ opponents on Wednesday night will be feeling just as confident as the Reds go into their much-anticipated rematch. After a poor start to the season, New England definitely turned its season around. In their first nine games, the Revs lost five of those games. Since losing on April 23, New England have only failed to earn a point twice, in losses to New York City FC and the Philadelphia Union.

Heading into Wednesday night, the Revs continue their own four-game unbeaten streak. The Revs are 2-2-0 in their last four unbeaten games and have not conceded a goal in that span. In their final game of the league, New England went away with a 1-0 win over bottom-placed DC United.

Goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic has played a large part in New England’s defensive success. Petrovic took first place on June 12 and has played in 11 games for the Revs since then. In those 11 games, the Serbia international has kept five clean sheets and conceded just 11, currently ranking third among goalkeepers in MLS.

Petrovic played a key role in the last matchup between these clubs when the Serb denied Insigne the penalty spot which would surely have given the Reds all three points.

Revolution head coach Bruce Arena will have a relatively healthy roster when New England crosses the line. The only notable absence for the revolution will be Henry Kessler, who has been ruled out due to health and safety protocols. Kessler featured in all four games during that unbeaten streak. However, Kessler’s absence could open the door for former Reds defender Omar Gonzalez to make an appearance at BMO Field.
