Google Chrome’s Latest Optimizations Let You Watch YouTube for 18 Hours on the M2 MacBook Pro
The latest version of the Google Chrome browser for Macs includes optimizations designed to increase battery life. In a blog post shared today, Google says that on a single full charge, a 13-inch M2 MacBook Pro with Chrome can surf the web for 17 hours or watch YouTube for 18 hours.
Improvements to the power saving mode add another 30 minutes to browsing time by reducing unnecessary background tasks, and while Google uses the “M2” MacBook Pro as an example, the company says those using older Macs will also see performance gains.
To extend battery life, Google has made changes including optimizing iframes to use less energy, optimizing JavaScript timers to activate the CPU less often, optimizing data structures to optimize access, and eliminating unnecessary redraws .
Google plans to further optimize the power saving mode in the future. The Chrome browser for Macs can be downloaded from Google’s website, with version 110 released last week.
