Greece’s July Sporting and Cultural Events 2023
This month features a number of high profile sports and cultural event will take place all over Greece. The “17th Posidonia” and “4. Samos – East End Arts Festival, Aegean 600 Sailing Event and Hefaistos North Aegean Basketball 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament are scheduled to take place in July under the auspices of Greek Tourism Organization (EOT). Numerous other events are planned for visitors with special interests, enriching the overall tourism offer of Greece.
Out of June 29th to July 13thThe “17 Posidonia” is organized in Patras, Aigio and the neighboring municipalities. It is an institution with a cultural and sporting character, as this year’s event includes the 17th World Festival of Traditional Dances and Music and the 3rd Pan-European Children’s Festival of Traditional Dances aged 10-17. In addition, the 3rd World Congress of Folklore and Olympism, an International Festival of Music and Gastronomy, the 3rd Heliconio Posidonio International Rough Road, an International Beach Volleyball Tournament and the Crossing of the Vouraikos Gorge are planned. Bands and athletes from Greece and countries in Europe, South America, Asia and Africa will take part in the events.
On 1st of JulyIn Samos the “4. Arts Festival of Samos – East End” organized by the Municipality of West Samos, the University of the Aegean, the General Archive of the State, the Schwarz Foundation and local cultural institutions. Within the framework of the festival, which ends in November, there are historical walks, visual exhibitions in various locations on the island, film screenings, theatrical performances and concerts, as well as a scientific conference on the industrial past of the city of Karlovasi. The festival aims to develop themes related to the island’s past, with an in-depth look at local politics, the daily lives of residents and the timeless cultural journey of the island in all its forms.
Between 7th-15th Julythe international offshore sailing race “Aegean 600” takes place with a distance of 600 nautical miles. without station, start and finish in the area of Souni. 45 boats from 17 countries with more than 600 sailors are expected. The “Aegean 600” is part of the International Maxi Association’s Mediterranean Maxi Offshore Challenge (IMA – Mediterranean Maxi Offshore Challenge) because, among other things, it is equipped with 11 maxi sailing boats that develop high speeds on the water. The race is organized by the Panhellenic Offshore Sailing Association (POIATH), with co-organizers from the Attica Region and the Olympic Marina of Lavrio.
Finally from July 21-23The basketball tournament “Efaistos North Aegean Basketball 3 on 3” takes place in the old port of Myrina on Lemnos. This particular tournament, which has become a prestigious sports tourism institution with international flair, is organized by the island’s eponymous basketball team on an impressive 3v3 Olympic-size pitch. The program includes games for boys and girls ages 9-12 (Juniors), boys ages 12-18 (Rising Stars), men ages 18+ (Elite), women ages 12+ (Ladies) and Veterans up 40 years. In addition, there will also be show fights by international and experienced athletes.
