HBO Hard Knocks schedule 2022: How to watch, stream training camp with Detroit Lions
The Lions are in an unusual position ahead of the 2022 NFL season.
Not only will Detroit be the team in the HBO docuseries Hard Knocks for the first time, but it also enters coach Dan Campbell’s second season with unusual optimism. That’s a year after the team suffered multiple heartaches in a 3-13-1 debut for Campbell.
“Hard Knocks” isn’t exactly associated with wins, as nine out of 17 teams have lost seasons after being featured in the HBO docuseries. But neither are the Lions, one of the NFL’s historically downtrodden teams.
So it’s worth noting that seven teams from “Hard Knocks” made the playoffs – six of them with double-digit wins. Hey, if there’s ever a time to have hope for the upcoming season, preseason camp would be it.

How did the featured teams fare in Hard Knocks?
The Lions will become the 18th team – in 17 seasons – to be the featured franchise on Hard Knocks. The 2020 series featured both Los Angeles teams, with the Rams going 10-6 and the Chargers 7-9.
The Cowboys were the main team of 2021, becoming the second franchise in as many years to make the playoffs after Hard Knocks. The Lions can only hope to finish third (which would give the team their first playoff appearance since 2016).
This year features multiple Allen Park, Michigan storylines – not the least of which is Campbell, who is in many ways the greatest character on this Lions team. He’s built significant confidence in a franchise that historically hasn’t had much to enjoy.
Other storylines include whether Jared Goff can see greater success in 2022 with a receiving corps that includes Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, first-round NFL draft picks.
