Holterman’s New X-treme 78 Sport Yacht Is Both Fast and Flashy – Robb Report
Holterman’s X-Treme fleet just got a little bigger.
The Dutch shipyard recently delivered the first 78-foot model in the acclaimed series. Announced back in 2021, the X-treme line includes five fast and flashy yachts that provide a sharp contrast to the cruise ships Holterman has delivered since 1964. The newcomer follows in the footsteps of the award-winning 107-foot yachts Mrs. Fleur but is smaller and finer.
baptized Miramar, the X-treme 78 Sport delivers speed, style and space. It has a slimmer, more streamlined profile than its predecessor, but clearly shares the same X-treme DNA. Written by Bernd Weel, the entire range features a “sleek look” that is “out of the ordinary yet classy,” according to Herman Timmerman, general manager of Holterman. KB Alubouw and Sea Level also helped with the exterior design of the 78 Sport.
Forged from lightweight aluminium, Miramar features a twin hard chine deep V planing hull and twin Volvo Penta IPS engines which together allow her to reach over 30 knots at full tilt. For comparison, Mrs. FleurThe maximum speed is 15 knots. Miramar According to the shipyard, it is also very manoeuvrable and exceptionally quiet in operation.
The yacht’s wide, 20-foot beam gave Kitty van der Kamp Design plenty of interior space to play with. The decor combines rich wooden elements, handcrafted by Holterman carpenters, with modern furniture, elegant light fixtures and large windows. The living rooms are dark and atmospheric, but still light and airy.
The open layout is centered around the main deck as it houses a huge saloon, dining room and galley. Stairs take you down to the owner’s suite, three guest double bedrooms and a separate day bathroom, whilst sliding doors lead you to the aft deck seating area. Elsewhere outdoors, the foredeck is furnished with a comfortable U-shaped sofa and a large sun lounger, the bow offers another outdoor berth and the hydraulic bathing platform is equipped with a tender.
The best part? There are more X-treme yachts on the horizon. Holterman recently delivered the first X-treme 54 (Ferox), but has already started building a second hull. The first X-treme 60 is also in development.
“Based on a proven platform, every possible desire is up for discussion, from exterior design to interior to choice of engines,” Timmerman said in a statement. “A hybrid option is also on the table, and we love to innovate with customers, involving them in every step of the process.”
Sounds like customers can push X-treme yachts to the extreme.
