Minnesota fans will see wild hockey without the best player on the team.

Wild superstar Kirill Kaprizov left the team’s game against the Jets on Wednesday night and did not return. As a result, he is expected to miss an extended period of time.

The loss of Kaprizov is a major blow to a burgeoning Minnesota squad. The Russia winger has been the team’s top scorer since joining from the KHL three seasons ago.

The Wild are in the middle of a tight race for the Central Division. The team is 8-0-2 in their last 10 games and is tied with the Stars for first place in the division.

The exact injury of Kaprizov is not known at this time. The team speaks of a lower body injury.

Kaprizov unluckily collided with Jets defender Logan Stanley in the Wild’s 4-2 win on March 8. Stanley defended Kaprizov and managed to fall on Kaprizov who was in an odd position deep on the ice.

Considering Stanley’s size (6-7, 228 lbs), that was a lot of weight being put on Kaprizov.

The Winnipeg big blue liner said after the game that he didn’t expect Kaprizov to stop so abruptly and he lost his balance, causing him to land on the wing.

“He stopped and I tried to check him out,” Stanley said. “Then I just fell on top of him… I didn’t expect him to go down. It’s just an unlucky game.”

Head coach Dean Evason said after the game that the team had no update on their star winger. According to The Athletic’s Michael Russo, Kaprizov would be fully assessed on Thursday, a day off for the club.

The Wild announced that Kaprizov will be out for three to four weeks with a lower body injury.

That schedule means Kaprizov could return to the Wild lineup before the postseason. But he will miss the rest of March with the injury unless he recovers faster.
