How To Beat Catherine Ashdown In Fallen Legion Revenants
Quick links
- Which example to use?
The second big encounter you will have Revenants of the Fallen Legion is the lady whose name has been thrown around quite a bit. Be it in the narrative weaves of Welkin, the hostile design of the miasmic hordes, or even just the name of a boss’ special move. We are of course talking about the long-awaited Cathering Ashdown.
The “Mother of the Harvest” is quite a formidable opponent, bringing attacks that are truly unique to her. She’s big, menacing, and frankly, downright insane. She is the culmination of unbridled ambition, wealth, power and mystical, mind-bending fog of death. In fact, we’d go so far as to say that this fight is quite unsettling.
Who is Catherine?
Catherine is one of many nobles who did not flee to Welkin. Despite this, She has kept her power in check, and uses that power to deliver supplies to humanity’s last sane remnant. This has caused her people to rot and die at the miasma, and inevitably to her collapse late-stage disease.
sure, Catherine’s power was all an illusion. She was manipulated by Ivor and indeed helped cement a tyrant’s grip on the last remnants of the human race. For this he condemned her with a false promise of fertility. Eventually, upon seeing Rowena, her insanity overwhelms her and a monster is born in her place.
Catherine’s attacks
Catherine is an interesting boss. She has attacks, and those attacks are pretty dangerous – hell, they’re downright nasty – But the core of her offense comes from the doll children she produces. These are their greatest strength and their inevitable downfall.
Catherine who is a great chapter ending boss three phaseseach stage increasing her aggressiveness and health, and slightly altering her moveset.
Catherine
attack | explanation | counter |
---|---|---|
projectile | Catherine spits out a fast-moving purple projectile. | Projectiles have been noticeably speeding up since the beginning of Chapter 2, and Catherine’s projectile is no different. This attack spreads shockingly fast, so it can be a nightmare block. It’s all about the timing. Blocking early is also a good idea. |
hair bang | When your role models get too close to Catherine, she unleashes a powerful blast of hair. This attack deals heavy damage and comes out quickly. | Be sure to time your melee attacks. As soon as you move within range, she will prepare for this attack, so change your specimens. Fast-attacking melee fighters are particularly good at dodging counterattacks. |
piercing wind | Catherine will use this every time she recovers from a stagger. This attack hits all tiles and hits twice. | This attack always deals damage, but you can negate most of it with a well-timed parry. Parrying will completely negate the first hit, and assuming you’re holding down the Block button, we found it took less damage from the second onwards since our specimens were still in the Block state. |
bloodlines | Catherine will use this from Phase Two onwards. Catherine summons two minions – a red child and a blue child. In addition, she will also summon a braid of hair. | You cannot stop this attack, and she will use it every time you kill children. We will go into how to deal with their children later in the guide as it is quite complex. |
hair tips | Catherine will fire a slow-moving trail of hair that will erupt from the ground. It moves one square at a time until it covers every square on both sides of the square. | This attack is confusing at first as the timing seems wrong. That’s because the timing is probably off. The best way to counter this is to block when the spikes reach the square in front of your specimens. We found that we landed a save or a perfect save 100% of the time. Just be aware that Catherine’s children will attack at the same time and their bodies will cover up this attack, making blocking even more difficult. |
breath attack | This attack only comes in phase three and pretty much replaces all of Catherine’s attacks. She will use this almost constantly, and it deals catastrophic damage to all specimens. | This attack can be blocked/parried/parried, but the timing is incredibly tight and difficult to judge – this is made worse by the presence of her children, who make it much more difficult to time your blocks and even notice the attack is ending. You can spot this attack by looking at Catherine – a bar will fill up as she charges up the attack. |
doll children
attack | explanation | counter |
---|---|---|
Blue Child – Poke | Catherine’s Blue Child will unleash a quick push. | This attack isn’t hard to block on its own – the trick is noticing that it comes when everything else in this fight is going on. The blue kid will confuse you with this and his next attack. |
Blue Kid – Slam | Catherine’s Blue Child ends with a slow but powerful slam. | This attack is a mix-up. The timing is completely different than Poke, so you’ll need to pay attention to the differences in animations to see what’s coming. Of course, this is complicated by the existence of every other attack flying around in this fight. |
Red child – bite | Catherine’s Red Child moves within range and bites the specimen in front. | This attack is easier to block than all Blue Child attacks, and we’re pretty sure it does less damage. We haven’t noticed another attack from the Red Child, so there shouldn’t be any confusion complicating this. |
Catherine’s mechanics
The big mechanic Catherine has for her is Bloodlines. Catherine’s children are a nightmare for a number of reasons. First, while they are active, Catherine is practically unkillable. Second, their attacks are a to cope with pain and are often mixed up with Catherine’s attacks, further compounding the problem. After all, Catherine’s children incredibly tanky. you take almost no damage when they have bp so you have to stagger them if you want them dead.
Dealing with Catherine’s children
You have three Ways to deal with Catherine’s children, each viable. Of course, that doesn’t mean they’re equal in terms of effectiveness or ease of use. The first is the most obvious – Perfectly parry their attacks and counterattacks. Depending on your party, it should take two Perfect Parries per kid to kill them.
Another way to deal with them is to exploit their weakness. Both Catherine and her children are weak electricity. You should have access to several Electric Deathblows Zulifqar with his being the most obvious Lucent Gear. A single blast of that will the children staggerand leave them wide open for a quick kill.
The best way to kill them is in our experience is to use deathblows and magic to move the children into the strange beaded totem that spawns with them. this will kill the children immediately. Not only that but Rowena’s magic will permeate Catherine as long as her children are aliveallowing you to easily manipulate their positioning without having to rely on specific specimens and kills.
How to break Catherine
in phase one, Catherine will break like any other enemy. She doesn’t have much BP, her regeneration isn’t fantastic, and her HP is shockingly low. Attack her until she collapses, then end the stage.
From phase two it’s a bit trickier than Catherine very high BP regeneration and you HP is much higher to boot. to break Catherine They must kill their two children. This instantly breaks them, allowing you to unleash a devastating barrage of attacks.
Which example to use?
Any group of specimens can work in this battle, but we would recommend you at least take Zulifqarand a melee DPS. Aleister, Solomon or Kali are excellent for this. Your last slot is great for a ranged – ideally with a killing blow that can reposition units.
The reason we want Zulifqar is because of his access to electric attacks. Catherine and her children are weak to this element and allow it cause massive damage with ease by bringing Zulifiqar’s with you Lucent Gear. Kali is good for this too, as she also has access to an electric deathblow – However, she is caught behind the progression of the story.
battle strategy
Catherine is all about knowledge, so we will not repeat everything that we have already covered in such detail. phase one, Attack it until it breaks, then end the stage. in phase two, Use magic to push/pull her children into her totem to kill them instantly, and then lie down in Catherine with everything you’ve got. Remember that she will always use her piercing wind to recover from a stagger. So be ready to block. phase three, Watch out for her breath attackbut otherwise continue doing what you did in Phase Two.
A lot happens in this fight But having the knowledge you already have about how to kill them and overcome their gimmicks makes a world of difference here. It’s less about reflexes and performance and more about using mechanics to sidestep the challenge in interesting ways.
With Catherine below, You can proceed to chapter three.
