The Centaur Attacks

As we indicated in the introduction, the centaur is extremely mobile. He has a variety of lunge attacks, as well as piercing and slam attacks. Almost all of them are pretty fast. even more urgent The centaur has multiple attacks that hit it anywhere. This means that sometimes a simple dodge isn’t enough. Oh, and he has half a dozen ways to set you on fire. So look forward to that too. Luckily, there are angles the centaur isn’t good at defending and a number of his attacks make him vulnerable. He may be tough, but he’s far from unbeatable.

javelin

With this move, the centaur thrusts his spear forward. It’s pretty fast, but it’s also very linear and non-tracking. A quick side dodge will get you past this move every time. If he gallops towards you and stops, that’s probably the next move, so get the dash ready. Sometimes he performs several of these stitches in a row.

spear swinging

The centaur doesn’t spin particularly fast when you’re by its side, which is where you’ll land a lot of your attacks. However, this horizontal swing attack will flip him, and he is quite quickly. So if you’re sitting in the bag and banging on the centaur, keep an eye out for this attack. If you’re already at his side, another fling will put you out of range while allowing you to maintain that favorable position. Otherwise, sprint straight through.

Kick with the hind leg

If you’ve been wondering why we told you to attack the centaur from the side and you’re wondering why we didn’t tell you to attack its back, here’s why. If you stand around behind The Centaur, he’ll kick you with his hind legs. It doesn’t deal much damage, but it will put an end to your offense and give it a chance to recover.

Charge swipe

This step is pretty much self-explanatory. The centaur will charge past you, hitting you with his spear. This is a fairly predictable attack, so charging straight through it isn’t hard. It also makes the centaur extremely vulnerable as it takes several seconds to turn around. This is another ideal opportunity to strike!

Horse Slam

When the centaur rears up, you know it’s about to hit the ground. This move hits him everywhere and has damn good range. It will also likely set you on fire if it hits. As soon as you see him get his front hooves up, run away. However, remember not to go too far. Once the attack is over, you’ll want to be right back with him.

One thing to keep in mind is how injured the centaur is when performing this move. When he’s hovering at around half health, he’ll use this move to transition into his second phase, but the shockwave will be significantly larger. So if you see him performing this attack about halfway, walk as far away as you can.

cannon fire

This attack comes in two forms. It either shoots in a vertical line or sweeps across and shoots in a horizontal array. Obviously this attack is much more dangerous when you are far away. Which is an important reason to stay close to him. Because once the centaur starts firing his salvo, they can’t stop. This makes this move a perfect opportunity to deal big damage.

Ground stomp combo

When you see the centaur gathering fire underneath it, it’s about to launch another attack that hits everyone around it. This one has more range than his standard slam and hits multiple times. If you get pinned against the wall while doing this, you will almost certainly die. You can knock him out of this attack with a fully charged heavy weapon attack, but you’re playing with fire. The safest thing to do is run far, far away.

There is a lot of leeway when it comes to choosing a weapon. Heavy weapons can take down the centaur, and you’ll have plenty of opportunities to hit him with your lighter weapon combos. It’s also a fight where you can use your shield special attack if you want, as many of his spear attacks are blockable. So you’ll probably be able to fight him with any weapon you like, with one exception. The main thing to avoid is using weapons with a Fire Infusion special move, as the Centaur is highly resistant to fire.

It’s probably worth bringing some flame retardant flasks or equipping a fire resistance module. This isn’t strictly necessary, but you’ll deal with it a lot of fire attacks, so it’s not a terrible idea.

Centaur battle strategy

We think you probably already know this, but just in case you don’t, when you’re on fire you’ll need to run around as fast as you can to put the fire out. Fire damage is no joke, so pounce.

When you’re fighting the centaur, there’s one thing you’ll always want to do: stand by its side. It’s not advisable to go behind the Centaur as they’ll kick your head in, but their rate of turn is one place where they are quite slow. Now he can cover this by using his fast Spear Swipe attack, but as long as you’re looking for it you should be able to avoid it. Stay by his side and stab him for as long as possible.

However, all good things must come to an end, and that includes side stabbing. The Centaur comes equipped with a few attacks that will hit him anywhere. In the first phase, this will be a simple stomp attack. So when he rears up on his hind legs, give him some space. Then when he comes down, close that distance and start attacking the side again. If you get tagged by this attack, you’ll likely be on fire.

You shouldn’t stray too far, because then the centaur will fire at you with his cannon. When you are hit by a cannon blast, a large part of the fire effect is applied. However, if the centaur starts firing its cannon when you’re near it, it’s the perfect opportunity to land a fully charged attack!

Once The Centaur is at half health, they will perform an upgraded version of their Horse Slam, which hits pretty far and wide. This will also imbue all of her attacks with the fire element. So keep an eye on their health and stand back if you see them preparing for the transition. They’ll also be twirling their flaming spear as they do so, so there’s a clear clue.

In her second form, it will be more of the same, just with a greater chance of setting you on fire. In our fight with him, he used his Charged Strike more often in the second phase. That’s a good thing since it’s another move that makes him vulnerable enough to eat a fully charged attack.

The main thing to watch out for in the final leg of this fight is his Horse Stomp Combo Attack. When the centaur starts spitting fire at the ground, it’s about to perform that attack. Go as far away as possible. You can interrupt it, but if you get the timing wrong you could end up dying in the process. This attack is bad news, don’t play it risky. Just stick to the plan and you’ll have The Centaur down in no time.
