How to block ads in Chrome: Windows or macOS
There are quite a few ad blockers in the Chrome Store, but for the purpose of this guide, we’ll show you how to install AdBlock (opens in new tab)as it is the most popular. It is also the one that I have personally used for years and always recommend to others.
note: The screenshots are based on the Windows version of Chrome, although the layout and steps are similar for macOS and ChromeOS.
1. with Chrome, go to AdBlock page (opens in new tab) in the Chrome Store and sign in to your Google account if you’re not already signed in. Click Add to Chrome then click Add Extension on the pop-up window that appears.
2. After a few seconds, AdBlock will install and a new tab will open asking if you want to make a donation to the developers. This is entirely optional as AdBlock is free so don’t hesitate close the tab down if you don’t want to donate.
3. AdBlock is now ready to use, but there are a few options that we recommend tweaking first. In order to do this, Click on the puzzle icon top right, Click AdBlockthen Click on the settings cog.
4. You should now be in the General Options menu. To get the best experience, we recommend Clear the following checkboxes:
- Disable: Allow non-intrusive ads
- Disable: Allow ads on specific YouTube channels
- Disable: Allow AdBlock to show me messages on webpages when I need it
By leaving these disabled, you ensure that your web browsing experience is as ad-free as possible and that you don’t receive unnecessary messages from AdBlock itself.
you can now Close the settings page and enjoy an ad-free web experience.
How to block ads on android
Unfortunately, Chrome on Android doesn’t support ad-blocking plugins like its desktop counterpart. However, it includes an ad-blocking feature that reduces the number of “intrusive or deceptive ads.” While this isn’t nearly as effective as an ad blocker plugin, it does slightly reduce the number of annoying ads you see online.

The bad news is that there is no way to block ads in Chrome on iPhone. Unfortunately, the only option in the iOS version of Chrome is the ability to block popups (which is already on by default).
However, if you want an ad-free browsing experience, it is possible by using Safari and installing AdGuard (opens in new tab)app, which is basically an ad-blocking plugin. Just visit the App Store (opens in new tab) and follow the installation instructions.
