How to Close Tabs by Double-Clicking Them in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Vivaldi
Double-clicking a tab to close it can be a neat time-saving trick when browsing. Here’s how you can do it in Edge, Chrome, Firefox, and Vivaldi.
You can close open page tabs in most browsers by clicking them once X Use buttons, hotkeys, or select a context menu option. However, a new way to close tabs has crept into some web browsers.

How to close tabs with double click in Vivaldi
Vivaldi has some technically devastating browser features that you don’t get in other alternatives. It is one of the few browsers that currently includes a default setting for double-clicking to close tabs. selection of Close tab on double click Option in the Vivaldi settings window activates this function. You can select this option as follows:
- Click on Vivaldi Menu Button.
- Choose settings view options.
- click tabs on the left side of the Vivaldi settings window.
- Then select the Close tab on double click Checkboxes in the tab handling settings.
Now you can close tabs by double clicking them in Vivaldi. Open a few pages in the browser to try out the function. Double-clicking anywhere in the tabs with the left mouse button closes them.

How to close tabs with double click in Firefox
The Firefox preference to close pages by double-clicking is not available in this browser’s default options. It’s a hidden option that you can only enable through Fox Advanced settings (about:config) tab. Here’s how to enable double-click to close side tabs in Firefox:
- Entry about:config in the Firefox website address bar and press on your keyboard Enter Button.
- A warning message will appear when you open it Advanced settings Tab. Press the I accept the risk Possibility.
- Type browser.tabs.closeTabByDblclick in the Advanced settings Tab search field.
- double click browser.tabs.closeTabByDblclick to set this preference Is correct.
You don’t have to restart Firefox for this setting to take effect. Open some page tabs at the top of the browser. Then you can close pages by double-clicking tabs, like in Vivaldi.
How to close tabs by double-clicking in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge
Unfortunately, Chrome does not natively support this feature. Starting with version 105, Edge includes the function to close tabs with a double click. Users must upgrade before they can access the feature. In version 105 you can enable this setting as follows:
- Open Microsoft Edge and press on it settings (ellipses) button.
- click settings (the gear button) from the menu.
- Choose Accessibility within the settings Tab.
- Then click the Use double click to close browser tabs Setting on to enable it.
However, you can still double-click tabs to close them in Chrome and Edge 104 by adding the Double Click Closes Tab extension to those browsers. Open the Double Click Closes Tab extension page (linked below) in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Then click the Add to Chrome button to install this extension.
Edge users must have it Allow extensions from other shops Setting enabled to install double click closes tab. To enable this option, enter edge://extensions/ in Edge’s URL bar and click on it To return. Then you can click Allow extensions from other shops Shift button on.
Note that “Double-click closes tab” does not allow users to close pages by double-clicking tabs in the tab bar. You have to double-click somewhere on the actual pages to close them. Double-click an image on a page with the left mouse button to close it.
Double Click Closes Tab also has some additional customization settings. To access it, right-click on that extension’s button and select it options. Then you can configure Close/reopen tabs with and Press this key + clicks to open the tab again settings from there. click Apply settings & close to save.
