How to cross-post Reels from Instagram to Facebook

(Pocket-lint) – Meta now makes it easier for users and creators to cross-post content between its platforms, so you can ensure your Reels get seen by more people.

Instagram Reels are an important part of Meta’s effort to compete with TikTok, and there are several updates to Reels to improve them.

The hope is to help creators grow and monetize content on both social platforms.

Getting Started with Crossposting Reels

Meta notes that this feature is rolling out globally, but may not be available to everyone just yet.

To start crossposting reels from Instagram to Facebook, you must first link your accounts through the Account Center.

Once your Instagram and Facebook accounts are connected, you can share a reel on both platforms at the same time.

If you are on Instagram then you can follow these steps:

  1. First, start recording your reel on Instagram
  2. During the process, be sure to click Next
  3. You should then see an option to share to Facebook
  4. Click on the Facebook account that you want to share
  5. Find the option to automatically share all future reels on Facebook
  6. Press Share

If required, it is also possible to adjust your account settings so that all future reels are automatically added to Facebook as well.

In order to do this:

  1. Go to your profile by tapping on your profile photo
  2. Click on the burger menu at the top right of the screen
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Scroll down and tap Account Center
  5. Follow the steps to add the account you want to share from and share it here
  6. Then find the Auto Share setting

What happens to cross-posting reels?

As expected, when you share an Instagram role on Facebook, they automatically show up as Facebook roles. By default, the Facebook Reels are seen by your default audience. If you want to change that, you need to change the audience in your settings.

If you have a public Instagram account, Facebook Reels are automatically open to the public by default. Alternatively, if your Instagram account is private, the reels will only be visible to your friends on Facebook.

remix reels

Along with the ability to cross post, Meta Facebook Reels has also added additional Reels remix options. So if you’re remixing, you can add your video after the original reel or use the side-by-side option.

In addition, Meta adds the “Add Yours” sticker option, popular on Instagram Stories. So you can create a new reel based on a trend and get others to do the same with your reels.
