How to Delete a TikTok Video
Have you ever uploaded the wrong video on TikTok? It sometimes happens, especially when you produce multiple videos a day. The good news is that deleting a TikTok video is easy. The bad news? TikTok could penalize you and cause your views to drop if you do this.
Don’t delete any of your videos unless absolutely necessary. Accidental uploading is one thing; Shutting down an established video because it’s not working the way you want it to is a different matter. This could affect all your traffic on the platform. While snapping can be fixed by TikTok’s algorithm, it requires a lot of extra work that could be better spent growing your audience.
How to delete a TikTok video on mobile
Deleting a TikTok from the app on iPhone or Android devices is often the easiest approach.
- Open TikTok, then tap profile icon in the lower right corner.
- Select the video you want to delete.
- Tap on the three dots on the bottom right of the screen.
- Scroll the menu all the way to the right, then tap Extinguish.
- When the confirmation screen appears, tap delete option. It resembles a trash can icon.
That’s all you need to delete videos from your TikTok app.
How to delete a TikTok video from your browser
Deleting a video from your browser is a little easier than on mobile, if only because it requires fewer clicks.
- Open TikTok in your favorite web browser.
- Select your TikTok account icon in the top-right corner of the screen, then select show profile.
- Select the video you want to delete and then select the three dots in the top right corner.
- When the confirmation window appears, select the Delete button..
Deleting a video is that easy.
What if you want to hide a video without deleting it? This helps you avoid being affected by the algorithm, but it can also prevent the video from accumulating views. You might want to do this if you’re working on building a brand but have a video that’s targeting the wrong audience through its hashtags. This audience can skew who TikTok shows your content to, making it harder for you to reach the right people. The good news? It’s easy to hide a video from other TikTok users.
How to make a TikTok video private
A private TikTok video can be an alternative to deleting a video. Changing a video’s privacy settings is easy enough.
On the phone:
- Open TikTok and select the video you want to make private.
- Tap the three dots icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.
- Scroll above and select Privacy Settings.
- Choose Who can watch this video.
- Choose Just me.
Via a browser:
- Open TikTok, select your TikTok profile icon, then select the video you want to make private.
- Select the three dots in the top right corner of the screen and then select Privacy Settings.
- Choose Publicity > Private.
- Choose Finished.
Once you do that, TikTok will hide that video from your profile so no one else can see it. Hiding posts means they don’t appear on anyone’s homepage and disappear from your favorite videos list as well as your profile page.
How to delete your TikTok profile
If you decide your account just isn’t working for you and you want to leave TikTok for another social media platform or just start a new account, you can delete your entire account instead of removing individual videos. Note that this is a permanent decision; Once you have done this, you cannot undo the selection. You have to start over.
On the phone:
- Open tick tock > profile.
- Tap the three lines in the top right corner and select Settings and Privacy.
- Beat Administer Account > Extinguish Account.
- You can select a reason why you are leaving the platform or tap Skip in the upper right corner.
- You can then download all of your TikTok data if you wish. Before proceeding, tap the icon below to confirm you’ve read the data request warning.
Continue to follow the on-screen instructions. Your account will be deleted and you can open a new TikTok account.
Via a browser:
- choose yours profile icon > settings.
- Choose Extinguish Next Deleting an account.
Follow the remaining instructions to delete your account. The end result is the same as if you deleted it through the iOS or Android application.
Like all social networking platforms, TikTok is algorithm-driven — but since the platform is so new, it’s difficult to keep up with best practices for growing your audience. If you make a mistake and start losing followers or just can’t seem to get the traction you need, consider starting over with a new account, deleting a few objectionable videos, or just making them private to let the algorithm kick in the type of focused content you want to push.
