How To Earn Marriott Bonvoy Points With Uber

Back in April 2021, Marriott and Uber launched a pretty useful partnership that gives Marriott Bonvoy members the ability to earn points for Uber purchases. In this post I wanted to summarize how this partnership works as it is always worth remembering.

This is how the partnership between Marriott and Uber works

Thanks to the partnership between Marriott Bonvoy and Uber, Marriott Bonvoy members can earn points when ordering food delivery from Uber Eats and requesting select Uber rides.

This partnership is only available in the United States and you must link your Marriott Bonvoy and Uber accounts in the Uber app to automatically earn points on all eligible transactions.

While Marriott Bonvoy and Uber only launched this partnership in 2021, it’s worth noting that Starwood Preferred Guest had a partnership with Uber back then that was the first of its kind. Unfortunately, that partnership ended long before the Marriott-Starwood merger.

How many Marriott Bonvoy points can you earn with Uber?

With the Marriott Bonvoy and Uber partnership, you can earn 2x to 6x Bonvoy points per dollar spent with Uber, depending on the type of transaction (for context, I value Bonvoy points at 0.7 cents each):

• Earn 6x Bonvoy points per dollar spent on Uber Eats delivery to hotels operating under the Marriott brand with a basket of at least $25; I’m estimating that at an incremental return of 4.2%
• Earn 2x Bonvoy points per dollar spent on off-hotel deliveries and meal pickups with a basket of at least $25; I’m estimating that at an incremental return of 1.4%
• Earn 3x Bonvoy points on Uber XL, Comfort and Black rides; I’m estimating that at an incremental return of 2.1%

There is no limit to the number of points you can earn through this partnership and the eligible spend amount is calculated after all promotions and discounts have been applied and excludes taxes, fees and tips. Anecdotally scored points from this partnership post within days of a qualifying Uber purchase.

How do you link your Marriott Bonvoy and Uber accounts?

To earn points with the Marriott Bonvoy and Uber partnership, you must first link your accounts. How you do that? To link your Marriott Bonvoy and Uber accounts, sign in to the Uber app:

• Tap on the menu in the top left corner
• Then click on “Settings”
• Scroll down and tap “Marriott Bonvoy” in the rewards section.
• Tap Link Account
• Then log into your Marriott Bonvoy account

My take on the Marriott-Uber partnership

I’ve been taking advantage of the Marriott Bonvoy/Uber partnership since its inception and have earned quite a few points with it. Here’s my strategy for ridesharing and food delivery:

I also find it generally quite insightful that the most lucrative aspect of this partnership is the ability to earn Marriott Bonvoy points for Uber Eats delivery to Marriott hotels, rather than rewarding rideshare rides to Marriott hotels.

In the past, this would have been seen as competition to room service, but with many hotels clearly not planning to resume full service even after the pandemic, Marriott thinks it’s a good way to get people to stop eating from to order external hotels.

bottom line

Marriott Bonvoy and Uber have a great partnership that gives Bonvoy members the opportunity to earn points for both ridesharing and meal deliveries with Uber. You can earn 2-6x Bonvoy points, which I estimate to be a ~1.4-4.2% return.
