How to effectively use Bedtime mode on Android

Smartphones have become an integral part of our lives and the world without them. Aside from making our lives easier, they can also be detrimental when overused. Many studies have found that people who use their smartphones before bed are more likely to have poorer sleep quality. If you’re struggling to stick to a regular sleep schedule, or if you’re having trouble keeping distractions like social media apps away, the solution is built into your phone: bedtime mode.

Bedtime mode enables a few features that let you put down even the best smartphones so you can close your eyes. The feature will be activated at a scheduled time and is highly customizable.


How to turn on bedtime mode on Android

There are two ways to enable bedtime mode. You can use the Clock app and set up Digital Wellbeing in the Settings app. Digital Wellbeing has options for customizing the feature, while the Clock app digs deeper into stats and allows you to turn on some features that could help you fall asleep earlier. Here’s how to turn it on and set it up from both Digital Wellbeing and the Clock app.

Enabling bedtime mode in Digital Wellbeing

  1. Go to settings.
  2. Scroll down and tap Digital Wellbeing and Parental Controls.

  3. Beat sleep mode.
  4. Beat bedtime routine > Use a schedule.
  5. Choose a beginning and End Time.
  6. Select the days you want bedtime mode to turn on automatically.

Please note that these steps work on Android devices running Android 10 and above. If you can’t find Bedtime mode in the Settings app, your next destination should be Google’s Clock app.

Enable bedtime mode in Google Clock

  1. open that clock app, or install it if you don’t have it.
  2. Beat bedtime in the bottom bar.
  3. Beat Getting started and set a wake-up alarm.

  4. When you dock your phone with the display facing you, you wake it up sunrise alarm. This feature might sound gimmicky, but if you miss alerts frequently, it will make a world of difference.
  5. change that alarm sound, Activate/deactivate vibrationand Set a Google Assistant routine.
  6. Beat Next and set a time for bedtime mode to start. You can set it to remind you up to an hour before bedtime mode kicks in.
  7. Beat Finished.

Not all standard clock apps integrate bedtime mode. You may need to enable it in settings. Samsung and Xiaomi’s stock clock apps have you covered.

Get the most out of bedtime mode and digital wellbeing

Bedtime mode gives you multiple customization options, but if you’re still having trouble sleeping, features like Focus mode work perfectly with Bedtime mode.

Enable grayscale display and other features

When you use your smartphone at night, the blue light from the screen fools your brain into thinking it’s daytime. Grayscale reduces blue light and helps you put your phone down. Here’s how to do it.

  1. Go to Digital Wellbeing > sleep mode.
  2. Scroll down and tap To adjust.

  3. turn on Do not disturb to stop receiving calls from all but marked contacts and repeat callers.
  4. Beat Bedtime screen options and enable greyscale, Keep the screen darkand Dim the background options.

Now that your phone has a warmer tone, it should help you relax a bit.

Use of bedtime mode and focus mode in synergy

  1. Go to watch > bedtime.
  2. If you use your device while bedtime mode is active, you’ll see the list of apps you used most during bedtime in the last seven days. Make a note of them.

  3. Go to Settings app > Digital Wellbeing > focus mode.

  4. Select the distracting apps that you noted earlier.
  5. Beat Set a schedulechoose beginning and End Time and tap Sentence.
  6. Beat turn it on now to pause the apps.

  7. Here’s what you’ll see when you open paused apps when focus mode is on.

  8. Enable focus mode Swipe down twice with a few taps from above to open Android’s quick settings panel.
  9. Tap the Pen icon to enter edit mode.
  10. Scroll down to find those focus mode. Long press and pull up.

  11. Tap the back arrow to exit edit mode. Tap the Focus mode tile to start the function.

Using the Google Assistant routine

The Google Assistant routine helps you automate things you usually do when you wake up. For example, you can customize the home devices or ask the assistant to remind you when your battery level is lower than the value you set.

  1. Go to watch > bedtime.
  2. Beat time to get up and type Google Assistant routine.

  3. Beat Add action and choose from a variety of commands.

  4. If you e.g. B. want to edit an action, Adjust the phone volumebeat edit action and Set a custom value.

That Read unread texts action inside Communicate and announce Settings is useful if you usually wake up and pick up the phone and read texts.
