How to eject water from an Apple Watch
Invested in an Apple wearable? You’d better learn how to eject water from an Apple Watch.
Apple Watch Series 2 and newer models are water resistant to 50m, which means you can take them to the gym, go swimming, and wear them in the shower without worrying about water damage. However, before you do any of this, it’s still a good idea to water-lock your Apple Watch before you start it, and expel any water that gets into the device when you’re done.
Water Lock Your device locks the screen to prevent accidental operation underwater. Water ejection removes any water that has settled in the watch. Conveniently, both run with the same function.
You may be wondering why you need to remove water from the watch if it is waterproof. Well, water resistance is not the same as water resistance (where water cannot penetrate the watch) and means that the internal components are built to resist water damage under certain conditions. Water can penetrate, but the internal parts are resistant to damage, usually by being coated with water-repellent substances.
Eventually, however, that resistance will diminish, at which point your Apple Watch may crack if exposed to water. It will fade faster if you take your watch to water depths it is not designed for, if soap or harsh chemicals get into it, or if you leave water in the device for too long. Of course, you can avoid the first two by not diving with your Apple Watch and by keeping it away from soaps when washing your hands or in the shower. Manually ejecting water is the way to prevent third party damage – it prevents water from staying in your device for a long time. It’s really easy to do and we’ve covered the steps below.
