How to Fix Outlook Notifications Not Working on Windows

Microsoft Outlook, like any other email client, keeps you up to date with your latest emails by sending you timely notifications. However, when Outlook notifications stop working, you may miss important emails and notifications.

Fortunately, there are several ways to fix this problem. So let’s get started and explore the different ways to fix Outlook’s notifications on Windows.

1. Disable offline mode in Outlook

First, you should get the most obvious solution out of the way. If you have activated the “Work offline” function, Outlook will no longer receive new e-mails from the servers. This is one of the first things to check when Outlook isn’t receiving email or showing notifications.

You can fix this by disabling offline mode in Outlook:

  1. Open Outlook and switch to Send receive Tab.
  2. Click on the option that says Work offline to disable it.

2. Check Outlook in-app notification settings

If Outlook isn’t sending notifications even when it’s online, you can check Outlook’s in-app notification settings to make sure email notifications aren’t disabled.

Follow these steps to check Outlook notification settings:

  1. Open Outlook and click the file Menu.
  2. Choose options from the left pane.
  3. In which Outlook options select window post from the left sidebar.
  4. Under the message arrival enable desktop and sound alerts by checking the appropriate boxes. Then strike OK to save changes.

Once you have followed the steps above, you should start receiving Outlook notifications on Windows.

3. Enable Outlook notifications in Windows settings

Windows allows you to manage notification settings per app. If you previously turned off notifications for the Outlook app, here’s how to turn them back on.

  1. Press victory + me to open the settings apartment
  2. In which system tab, select notifications. Make sure notifications are enabled on your PC.
  3. Scroll down to Notifications from apps and other senders section and select outlook.
  4. Enable notifications Toggle for Outlook. Then check the boxes that say Show notification banner and Show notifications in the notification center.

Optionally, you can also enable sound alerts for Outlook notifications in the same menu.

4. Turn off Focus Assist

Focus Assist is a useful feature on Windows that allows you to work in a distraction-free environment. When enabled, Focus Assist will silence notifications for all apps unless otherwise noted.

You can check Focus Assist status in the Action Center on the bottom right, but if the tile is missing you can turn it off in Settings:

  1. open that settings apartment
  2. Navigate to System > Focus.
  3. Set Focus Assist to on Out ofso that you receive all notifications.

Check the Automatic Rules Section to ensure Focus Assist is not set to activate automatically.

5. Turn off the power saving mode

Another reason Outlook might not send you notifications is if your laptop is in sleep mode. If this is the case, apps like Outlook won’t be able to sync data in the background, and you may not get notifications from Outlook unless you open the app. To avoid this, you need to disable battery saver mode on Windows by following the steps below.

  1. Open the Settings app and go to System > Performance & Battery.
  2. Click on battery saver to expand it.
  3. press the Turn off now Button.

6. Check the Outlook rules

The rules in Outlook allow you to specify how different types of email should be handled. If you’ve previously set notification rules in the Outlook app, you might not see them. If you’re not sure, you can go through Outlook’s rules to turn off all rules related to notifications.

To access Outlook’s rules:

  1. Open the Outlook app and click the file Menu top left.
  2. In which The information tab, select the Manage rules and alerts Possibility.
  3. Under Email Rules, see all the rules you have created for your emails. Find and disable any rules that may affect Outlook notifications. Then strike Apply followed by OK.

7. Clear the Outlook cache

Outlook, like most apps, stores cache files on your computer to improve performance and speed up load times. However, once that cache is old or corrupted, it does more harm than good. Luckily, you can get rid of the Outlook cache data pretty easily.

Follow these steps to clear Outlook cache data on Windows:

  1. Press the victory + R Keys to open the Run dialog box.
  2. Type %localappdata%\Microsoft\Outlook in the Open field and press Enter.
  3. In which RoamCache Folder that appears, select all files and click the trash can icon at the top to delete them.

After that, restart Outlook and check if the notifications are working now.

  1. Open Outlook on your PC and go to File > Office Account.
  2. Select in the right pane Update Options > Update Now.
