How to get the eyepatch in Return to Monkey Island
The eye patch puzzle is one of the first you encounter in Return to Monkey Island as you try to secure a magical eyepiece that you can use to disguise yourself so you can get on LeChuck’s ship and set sail. While the game gives you a clue book, which you can get from the International House of Mojo, it only lays things out step-by-step, so doesn’t give you a full overview of the puzzles.
Here I explain each step you need to take to steal the eye patch from the Museum of Pirate Lore and recharge it to make it work. This guide provides some details on the story of the first part. So if you want to experience it for yourself, you might want to go. I’ve also included a gallery of screens that you can scroll through to see some of the more difficult steps and item locations.
How to solve the eye patch puzzle in Return to Monkey Island
There are two things you need to leave Mêlée Island and continue Guybrushe’s quest to uncover the mystery of Monkey Island: a mop and a way to disguise yourself so you can join LeChuck’s crew undetected. To do this, you’ll need to grab Jon Laney’s eye patch, which is located in the Museum of Pirate Lore.
Here’s what you need to do to get this magical accessory:
1. Go to Maps-n-More on Low Street and pick up a free monocle
2. Exit Maps-n-More
3. Go back to the store and grab another monocle
4. Combine the two monocles in your inventory
5. Go to the Museum of Pirate Lore near the forest and use your mega monocle to examine the lock on the eye patch case
6. Get the cracker mix from the museum storage room
7. Go to the locksmith in the High Street
8th. Give her the lock number of the showcase and she will make you a key. Also give her the cracker mix and she will give you some of her crackers
9. Go back to the museum and feed the guard parrot the crackers
10 Open the case and steal the eye patch
After stealing the eye patch, you need to recharge its magic.
Where to find the “Bite of a Thousand Needles”
Now you should go to the International House of Mojo on Low Street to show the eye patch to Voodoo Lady. She will tell you that it must be charged and that you must bring her the “bite of a thousand needles”. It’s a pretty cryptic request, but what you need to do is Bring her a sample of the carnivorous plant from deep in the forest.
If you’ve already secured the mop, you’ve been there before, but if not, just go near the Museum of Pirate Lore and enter the deep forest by the warning sign. If you didn’t buy the knife from International House of Mojo, you should, as you’ll need it for the mop puzzle anyway, and you’ll also need it to collect a sample from the carnivorous plant.
Bring her the plant sample back and she will recharge the eyepatch. Once you also have the mop, you can board LeChuck’s ship.
