How to Get the HALPS Prototype

death loop is one of the relatively few titles designed specifically for current-gen consoles, and its ambitious approach was praised by critics when it was first released in September last year. The game focuses on the protagonist Colt and his mysterious antagonist Juliana. Colt is stuck in a time warp along with the rest of the game’s cast, reliving the same day over and over again. The day is divided into four periods: morning, noon, afternoon and evening. Players must kill several key characters, called Visionaries, all in the same day if they want to break this seemingly endless cycle.

The game’s developer, Arkane, has recently released several updates, with the latest coinciding with the anniversary of the game’s release on PlayStation 5 and its launch on Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus Extra and Premium. This latest Golden Ribbon The update brought a ton of new content, including a new ability, new enemy types, cross-platform play, and an expanded cutscene at the end. One of the most valuable additions, however, is a new weapon, the HALPS prototype, which can incinerate enemies and make short work of even visionaries. Here’s how players can get their hands on this powerful weapon to make breaking the loop much easier.

Where to find the HALPS prototype

The HALPS prototype is in Dr. Wenjie Evans in The Complex. It’s most accessible in the morning when Wenjie is gone, as there are very few Eternalists to deal with and the water around the lab is frozen and can be entered. Players should exit Colt’s tunnel through the left door and follow the cliff edge straight ahead to deal with the Eternalist patrolling up there. Then they should look for a large satellite dish ahead and continue in that direction. Next, players should take the second left, past the small building near the cliff overlooking the sea. It’s easily identifiable by the ammo dispenser outside and a guarding Eternalist standing next to it. From there, players can see the laboratory of Dr. Wenjie Evans in front of him.

From here, players will have to go to the green building on the left and watch out for the Eternalist near the water. Enter the building through the unlocked double doors on the left and locate the small room straight ahead that has two security cameras. Players should make sure NOT to hack these cameras. The HALPS prototype is displayed in a showcase in this room.

How to unlock the HALPS prototype showcase

To open the showcase, players must break it. Unfortunately, other weapons aren’t powerful enough, so Colt has to harness the power of the HALPS prototype’s own laser to gain access. To turn it on, pull the left level, then the right lever under the display case. The beam follows the target of the surveillance cameras, so players must stand near the display case to direct the beam to break the glass. Because the weapon is so powerful, it’s very easy to get caught by the laser and die, so make sure Colt has a few Reprise Charges left so he can revive. Once the case is open, players can hack the cameras to avert the danger and just go inside to take the gun.

How to make the most of the HALPS prototype

The HALPS prototype differs from other weapons in the game as it runs on battery power rather than ammo and can be recharged from batteries or at battery charging stations. It can either fire in a straight line, or its beam can be redirected along the paths of turrets or sensors when they are fired on. The weapon is powerful enough to disintegrate even Visionaries in a matter of seconds, so it’s an incredibly useful tool for both breaking the loop and fending off the Julianas invasion.

Although players cannot add trinkets to the HALPS prototype, the weapon can still be augmented with other aspects of Colt’s gear. The best way to get the most out of this powerful laser beam is to combine it with the Nexus Plate, which is dropped by Harriet Morse and occasionally Juliana, to turn it into a devastating death machine. Nexus links enemies together and can link more enemies with upgrades and even heal Colt himself. Combining this ability with the power of the HALPS Prototype means players can make short work of a large group of enemies with just one shot. Breaking the loop isn’t an easy task, but this devastating combo can make the task a whole lot easier.
