When playing in teams, be aware that after someone uses the Alteration Altar, it becomes inactive and other team members cannot use it. So if you’re playing with multiple people and more than one person wants to become a wolf, the Reality Tree is the best place to visit due to the higher number of Alteration altars.
Once you get to an Alteration Altar, go on it and the “perform ritual“interaction is displayed on the screen. To perform a ritual and become a wolf, you must emotions. Open the emote wheel and only one emote will be available during that time (the Ritual Emote). Select it and make your character dance for a few seconds. A short animation will play of you dancing with a giant wolf-like hologram, and then They will howl and acquire the Howler Claws.
Using the Roar Claws
The Howler Claws are a melee weapon that is equipped once you complete the ritual. Once in your inventory, they function like any other item. You can drop them at any time in the game and they’re still usable, your teammates can pick them up and use them as well if they want.
If you’re equipped, you have two melee acts: the slash attack and the air slash attack.
- Slash Attack – lets you attack your enemies at close range. You can perform a combination of up to four melee attacks. To attack, press the fire button or hotkey.
- Air Slash Attack – If you hit the air, you can jump forward and attack when you land. To perform an Air Slash attack, simply press the jump button or hotkey twice.
Be wary of how powerful the Howler Claws’ melee combos might make you feel. When you type a combo, it doesn’t matter if you stop pressing keys: The combo doesn’t stop. If you are shot at by another player, you may be eliminated mid-animation.
The Howler Claws are difficult to defend in Zero Build mode. And even in playlists with build enabled, they can smash wooden walls and other structures fairly easily. That Port-a-Bunker Item is a great way to keep an angry wolf away.
Wolf Scent is a little trick you can use when you have the Howler Claws equipped. You can activate Wolfscent by pressing the “ADS” button or hotkey. This ability only activates when there are enemy players nearby. So it’s a great way to know if you should be alert or if you are alone.
You can only use it every 20 seconds as it has a cooldown to make it more balanced. When enemies are in a tight radius, the ability activates successfully and goes on cooldown. Your screen will dim and a faint glow will appear where your enemies are – it’s as if you’re smelling their human scent. If there are wolf-like enemies nearby, you’ll also be alerted as you can hear your character’s heartbeat getting louder as he approaches.
