How to install a door knob

When we moved into our current home, all doors – inside and out – had tarnished brass knobs and hinges that had seen better days. One of the first doors we wanted to update was the one that led to our backyard. We started by giving the door a fresh coat of gray paint. Next it was time to swap out the hardware. The process is simple, you just need to follow a few simple instructions to successfully complete this DIY project.

1. Remove the old door knob

The first step is to remove the old doorknob. Sometimes it’s not immediately obvious how to do this unless the screws are at the front base of the button. If this is the case, check the bottom of the button to see if there is a small screw underneath that needs to be removed. If not, unscrew the screws from the door knob base and pull out the knob. The other side should pull out easily.

2. Choose a new doorknob
