The next step is to cap the ridge. Nail it where the next ridge shingle will cover the nails about an inch horizontally and vertically. Line the entire roof peak with a good adhesive membrane that the roof caps will adhere to.

The difference between the two systems is that with a shingle over the ridge vent system, shingles are used to cover the ridge vent. Nails must penetrate into sheathing 3/4 or completely through the sheathing. These shingles match the other shingles used.

Start on the end of the ridge opposite to the prevailing winds. Then they nail it along the edge every 6 to 10 inches. They are a shingle over the ridge vent or an aluminum ridge vent cap.

When capping the ridge vent, use these lines to properly place your nails. Installed at the peak of a sloped roof, the ridge vent allows damp, warm air to escape from the attic. And then cap the ridge vent with appropriate capping.
