How to make Facebook private
There are several options for privacy and who can see your Facebook profile and posts, including:
- Public: “Everyone on or off Facebook.”
- Friends: “Your friends on Facebook.”
- Friends except: “Don’t show some friends.”
- Specific friends: “Only show some friends.”
- Just me
If you want to change your privacy settings on Facebook, on a desktop, select your account icon and go to the “Settings & Privacy” option. Select “Settings” and then “Privacy”.
From there, you can choose which of your content is visible to whom. You can change your activity, including who can see your future posts, who can see the people, pages and lists you follow, and who can see your friends lists, among other things.
To change privacy settings, select “Edit” to the right of the option and select the privacy option from the “Who can see?” drop-down menu.

How do I remove my Facebook from search engines?
To prevent your Facebook account from appearing in search engines (like Google or Yahoo) outside of Facebook, go to “Settings & Privacy” on a desktop and select “Settings” then “Privacy”.
Scroll to the “How others can find and contact you” subsection. Go to the option “Would you like search engines outside of Facebook to link to your profile” and select “Edit”.
Leaving this option enabled “allows search engines to link to your profile in their results,” says Facebook. If this setting is disabled, search engines will stop linking your account. However, your profile can still be found via Facebook search.
Uncheck the box next to “Allow non-Facebook search engines to link to your profile” to confirm removing your profile from search engines.
