How to overclock your controller on PC

Over the past few years, the PC gaming era has really picked up speed. The majority of gamers used to be on the console as it was relatively cheap and allowed gamers to join a game with their friends using the same console.

However, the emergence of new technologies and popular games has pushed the PC Master Race into the limelight. Millions of gamers around the world are now using a PC to play games. This will be much easier for gamers as they can still usually play with their friends on console but get the added benefit of unlocked frames per second, graphical customization and other features available on PC. Although many of these new PC gamers came from the console, they are used to playing with a controller and they still use this device to play games on PC. If you’re one of that crowd, you might want to check out how to overclock your controller.

Overclocking your controller on PC is a simple process that will help you unleash the full potential of your device. Essentially, this process reduces the input lag from your controller to the PC and also increases your controller’s polling rate. Both features make your controller feel a lot more responsive when using it on PC.

To overclock your controller:

  • Go to this GitHub page and download the zip file labeled “hidusbf”.
  • Open the downloaded file in your file explorer
  • Extract all files to another location on your PC (Downloads folder is what we used)
  • With the extracted files click on the “DRIVER” folder.
  • Click the Setup application.
  • Follow the steps to install the application
  • In the USB Device Rate Setup application, locate the box with your controller listed on it
  • Click the box and then click the Install Service button at the bottom of the screen
  • Then, with the controller box still clicked, change the selected “Default” rate to 1,000 and press “Install Service” again.
  • Finally, with your controller box still ticked, check the “Filter on Device” box and press “Install Service” again.
  • Disconnect the USB port of your controller from the PC and then connect it again
  • Now your controller’s box should say “Yes” under “Filter?”. and “1,000” below rate

And that’s the whole process of overclocking your controller. If you’re having trouble with your controller in-game, you can lower the selected rate to 500. As long as your controller is connected to your PC, you will receive the benefits of this service.
