How to choose your route

As mentioned, there are three normal routes during a normal new game – Morale, Wrathful, and Harmony.

The game’s route splits into part 8 if you have a specific choice. The selection prompt (which appears at the top of the screen) is: (But in the face of all this, what do I want to do?)

There are four choices at this point, but only three of them are available to you. The choices available to you are dictated by your karma – you can choose the routes that suit you two highest karmas. This means you are completely barred from taking the route that suits your lowest karma.

For example, if you have 25 Moral Karma, 42 Wrathful Karma, and 30 Harmony Karma, you have access to the options that put you on the Wrathful and Harmony paths, but not the Moral path.

In addition to these routes, you can also choose a fourth option, which leads to a short, bad ending. We do not consider this a standalone route.

The four choices are as follows:

  • be loyal to my friends – leads to the moral route.
  • Stay with Agumon. – leads to the Wrathful route.
  • Save the world. – leads to the Harmony route.
  • never go back – leads to the bad ending.

Once you’ve made your choice, you’re locked into a route and you should start to see significant differences in Part 9.

How to unlock the real route

The Golden Route, also known as the Truth Route, is only available on New Game Plus and has specific requirements. In particular, you need to increase your affinity with Ryo.

With enough affinity, Ryo will survive the encounter at the end of Part 3 – If you don’t lift it high enough at this point, you won’t be able to unlock the True Route and will be forced down one of the game’s regular routes.

There are ten ways to do this:

Chapter incident dialog selection

Chapter 2 Speak to Ryo again at the shrine later during exploration (So what should I do?)

Select “Speak to him”. for 5 affinity.

Chapter 3 Talk to Ryo in your free time (What should I do with Ryo?)

Choose ‘Make him engage!’ for 7 affinity.

Chapter 3 Choose between Ryo, Minoru, and Ryo just after you comfort Saki and Shuuji. Choose Ryo for 4 affinity.

If you complete all of these opportunities, you’ll have a total of 53 Affinity for Ryo, which is way more than you need Keep him alive at the end of Part 3.

The amount of affinity absolutely required to save Ryo is unknown, however You can definitely save him with at least 35. Luckily, you can get 35 Affinity with Ryo without missing out on anything else by following the instructions above.

If Ryo survives Part 3, you are trapped on the True Route. When you get to the usual route split in Part 8, you’ll have to choose an option that isn’t Never Back. – this choice will still lead to the bad end.

This means that With Ryo saved, it is impossible to follow any other route. If you’re on New Game Plus and want to take one of the traditional routes, make sure you don’t increase your affinity for Ryo too high.
