Press seam allowances up toward the yoke. Continue this pattern until the entire rip closes. Finish the seam allowances together using a serger, mock overlock or zigzag stitch.

Sew front pockets onto front pieces 3. Pin and sew the seam with a 1cm (3/8”) seam allowance. Open the zipper and pin the other side.

Try to make the stitches as close as possible. The assembly of a pair of jeans is very different from the usual way of sewing together the legs of a pair of pants. Straight stitch across this edge before you fold the other sides in by 1 ⁄ 4 inch (0.64 cm).

Double check all the markings and all the pieces that you have placed. To create the front pockets on jeans you’ll need the following pieces. You start with the inseam, followed by the outseam, then the belt loops, the waistband and the very last step is adding the trim.

You could do a second line of topstitching 5mm above the first. Thirdly, for the back of the jeans, you need to sew the yoke, then attach the back pockets, and then the back rise. Pin the patch into place before you sew or iron it on, ensuring the edges are flat against the fabric.

Keep the patch fabric on the back of the hole and instead of doing any other stitches you can do embroidery stitches over the patch. Before you sew up the hole, consider the size and raggedness of the rip, along with the type of fabric in question.

Hold the edges together and sew with a simple zigzag stitch. Press the seam allowance toward the left side (as if you are wearing the jeans). The bottom hem is used as the top edge of the bag.

The waistband, belt loops and button hole 6. A narrow split seam is much easier to sew up than a large, proper hole in the fabric. I pressed them and used my clapper to reduce the thickness.

Use the threaded needle to sew stitches into the denim around the edge of the hole, taking care to sew 0.5 inches away from the edge so it holds together. Repeat for the other side and stitch the two together. Using regular thread, sew 5/8” from the edge.
