How to unblock a number on your Samsung Galaxy smartphone

Reconcile your differences and unblock a number on your Samsung phone


Samsung lets you block contacts on the best Galaxy phones. If things are bad with someone, you can block their number on your phone to avoid calls and messages. If you accidentally blocked an unknown number or settled differences with your friend or family, you should unblock their number on your Galaxy phone.


Blocking a number can come in handy when unknown callers keep calling or texting to sell their products, credit cards, and other unnecessary stuff. You may also have blocked annoying friends or family members. While dodging messages is helpful, you may miss important calls in the process.

If you have saved the number in Contacts, use the app to unblock it.

  1. Open the default One UI Contacts app on your Galaxy phone.
  2. Tap the magnifying glass icon in the top right corner and look for the contact name you want to unblock.
  3. Choose More in the lower right corner.

  4. Beat Unblock contact.

Have you blocked an unknown number in the Recents menu? Follow this step-by-step guide to unblock:

  1. Open the Phone app on a Samsung phone.
  2. Tap on an unknown number and select it I (Info) button.
  3. Beat unlock from the bottom menu bar.

Unblock a number in the Messages app

You can view all blocked numbers in Messages app and unblock the required numbers.

  1. start the Messages App on your Samsung phone.
  2. Tap on the three dots icon in the top right corner and open it settings.

  3. Beat Block numbers and spam.
  4. open that block numbers Menu.

  5. From the list of numbers blocked on your phone, tap Extinguish (-) icon next to a number you want to unblock.

One UI doesn’t ask for confirmation and just unlocks it to receive calls and messages.

Use the Samsung Phone app to unblock a number

You can also access the same blocked number list from the stock phone app.

  1. open that phone App on your Galaxy phone.
  2. Tap and open the three-dot menu in the top-right corner settings.

  3. Choose block numbers.
  4. Check the same blocked numbers list. Tap the red icon next to a number to unblock it.

Unblock unknown and private numbers

Samsung offers an option to block unknown and private numbers. If you have the filter enabled, turn it off with the following steps.

  1. open that block numbers Menu in the phone app (see steps above)
  2. Turn off Block unknown/private numbers.

If you receive spam calls from private numbers, go to the same menu to re-enable the spam filter.

Disable spam protection

While the default caller ID and spam protection is useful, it can be aggressive at times. You can turn it off in the Call Settings menu.

  1. Go to call settings on a Galaxy phone (see above).
  2. Turn off Caller ID and spam protection.

Unblock a number from third party apps

So far, we’ve talked about unblocking a number using your Samsung phone’s default Messages, Phone, and Contacts app. If you use a third-party service like Truecaller to manage your calls and contacts, the steps to unblock a number are different. Let’s take Truecaller as an example here.

  1. Open Truecaller on your phone.
  2. Go to blocking Menu.
  3. Turn off Block top spammers, Block hidden numbers, Block numbers from abroadand Block numbers that are not in the phone book.

  4. Scroll to blocklist and unblock relevant numbers from the following menu.

Receive calls from relevant numbers
