How to Upgrade Watering Can in Disney Dreamlight Valley
The Watering Can is one of the magical tools that players can use in Dreamlight Valley. Not only can it water plants without having to refill, it can also be used to extinguish flames. Though his magic is limited to his unlimited supply of water, thanks to Merlin, with a little more magic he can even be used to scavenge mushrooms.
In this guide we are going to talk about how to upgrade the watering can in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
Requirements to upgrade the watering can
To upgrade the Watering Can, you must first unlock the Glade of Trust for 5,000 Dreamlight. You must also increase your friendship level with Merlin to level 8 in order to get the “A dark experiment” quest and complete the story quests along the way. Completing the first few story quests will have Merlin upgrading your watering can to allow it to temporarily remove mushrooms, while the level 8 amity quest will make this ability permanent.
How to update the watering can in Disney Dreamlight Valley
The watering can has two upgrades needed to remove the purple mushrooms found in the valley.
First Upgrade – Small Mushroom Patch
Once you’ve reached Friendship Level 8 with Merlin, talk to him to get the A Dark Experiment, in which he uses the power of a purified night shard to make the watering can’s ability to remove mushrooms permanent. Merlin will then ask you to collect the following materials:
- x20 mushrooms – can be obtained from the Glade of Trust
- x5 Emeralds – can often be obtained by mining in the Forest of Valor or the Glade of Trust
- x3 Purified Night Shard – can be crafted in a crafting station from the following materials:
- x15 Nightshards
- x3 Dream Shard
After gathering all the materials, go back to Merlin and he will upgrade your watering can. Now you can use the watering can to remove the mushrooms in the village, but only the small spots for now; the larger patches require another upgrade.
Second upgrade – Large mushrooms blocking the path
To get the next upgrade you must first reach friendship level 10 with Merlin and he will give you The Final Trial quest. In this quest you must create an ointment that will allow your watering can to remove the larger fungal stains. Completing this quest will also unlock Merlin’s wonderful wizard hat.
The first task is to craft five (5) Purified Night Shards, which requires the following:
- x25 Nightshards
- x5 Dream Shard
Once the Purified Night Shards are made, go to Merlin and he will ask you to crush them. You must then choose a character who can break the shards for you; The options depend on the characters you have invited to the village so far. Go to your selected character and give him the shards to break them up.
Next, you need to get the rest of the ingredients for the ointment. Merlin gives you a recipe book listing these items. To craft the Royal Watering Can Upgrade Salve you will need the following materials:
- x1 Falling Water
- x1 Heart of Ice
- x25 mushrooms
The falling water can be obtained from the waterfall on the south side of the Glade of Trust. The Ice Heart can be harvested from the Ice Tears seed Merlin gave you; Just plant it like any other plant, water it and wait a moment for it to grow. You can also gather more mushrooms by using your upgraded watering can on the small mushroom patches.
Once all the ingredients are gathered, craft the ointment from the Potions & Enchantments category of a crafting station and give the ointment to Merlin to complete the upgrade. Test your newly upgraded watering can to clear out the rest of the mushrooms in the clearing and other parts of the valley.
Tips for picking mushrooms
- Take a collectible character with you while you collect mushrooms; The higher their friendship level, the better.
- You can use the furniture menu to move the fountain to the locked area of the clearing, and then teleport there with the fountain to reach the other side and grab the mushrooms there. This exploit can also be used in the other areas with locked sections.
