What you should know

Get ready for an SEC fight when the Florida Gators and Missouri Tigers take on Saturday noon ET at Florida Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Florida has the odds in their favor, so they must be wary of complacency.

Last week, the Gators turned the game against the Eastern Washington Eagles into a track meeting, taking the gold after passing them for 663 yards for 423. Florida started their competition with ease at home with a 52-17 win over Eastern Washington. With Florida leading 35-3 at halftime, the matchup was already all but over. They relied on the efforts of WR Ricky Pearsall, who hit a quick touchdown, and QB Anthony Richardson, who passed on nine tries for two TDs and 185 yards and an additional 45 yards on the ground. That touchdown – a 76-yard rush in the second quarter – was one of the highlights of the game.

Meanwhile, Mizzou was within striking distance but couldn’t close the gap last week as they lost 26-22 to the Georgia Bulldogs. Missouri’s loss came despite a good play from RB Cody Schrader, who grounded for 89 yards with six carries. Schrader’s longest streak was 63 yards in the second quarter.

Most of the roster’s points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed 16. K Harrison Mevis delivered a perfect 5v5 game.

This next contest looks promising for the Gators, who are favored by a full 11 points. They hadn’t treated fans well this season, but they’re at least enjoying a 3-1 record against the spread.

Florida is now 2-2 while the Tigers sit at 2-3. Two defensive stats to keep in mind as you watch: Florida comes in and boasts the 20th fewest passdowns allowed in the nation with five passing touchdowns. But Mizzou is even better: They enter the competition with just four legal passing touchdowns, good for 14th-best in the nation. We’ll see if that lead paves the way for Mizzou to win.
