What you should know

The Buffalo Bulls are back on the road Saturday, playing the Massachusetts Minutemen on October 15 at 1:00 p.m. ET at Warren P. McGuirk Alumni Stadium. Buffalo won’t have home field advantage, but they do enjoy a 17-point spread advantage.

The Bulls opted to defend against themselves last week but the team still prevailed despite their 87 penalty yards. All went according to plan against the Bowling Green Falcons as they walked away with a 38-7 win. The team collected 31 points in the first half and used them to win. Among the leaders for Buffalo was RB Mike Washington, who rushed for two TDs and 155 yards with 16 carries. Washington put himself on the highlight reel in the second quarter with a 92-yard TD scramble.

Buffalo’s defense was also present as it collected an interception and three fumbles. S Marcus Fuqua picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, last week’s matchup between UMass and the Liberty Flames wasn’t particularly close, UMass lost 42-24. The Minutemen were down 35-10 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from. Massachusetts’ loss came despite a good play from RB Greg Desrosiers Jr., who rushed with seven carries for two TDs and 110 yards. One of the most memorable plays of the game was Desrosiers Jr.’s 53-yard touchdown rush in the first quarter. Desrosiers Jr.’s sharp performance set his single-game rushing touchdown highlight for the season.

This next contest looks promising for the Bulls, who are favored by a full 17 points. They were consistent moneymakers against the spread when favored (2-0) so could be worth a quick bet.

Buffalo’s win put them at 3-3, while the Minutemen’s loss pulled them back to 1-5. A few stats to keep an eye on: Buffalo ranks 29th nationally for interceptions thrown, with just three in the season. But UMass enters the matchup after picking up the ball six times, good for 35th in the nation. We’ll see which of these strengths – offensive or defensive – will prevail.
