What to expect at the Microsoft Surface event in October 2022
Although Microsoft hasn’t officially announced any of the expected Surface laptops and products, the majority of Microsoft devices are Surface products and as this is a Surface event it’s safe to say that we’ll have a selection of new Surface laptops and more to get .
We’ve heard a lot of rumors that Microsoft is working on the Surface Pro 9, so all signs point to an update of the 2-in-1 laptop. We were fans of the Surface Pro 8, with its gorgeous 13-inch, 120Hz display and strong performance from the 11th Gen Intel CPU. However, 12th Gen Intel processors are all the rage now, which means the Surface Pro 9 could use an update.
The Surface Laptop Studio was (and still is) a hit over the last year, with an innovative hinge and powerful specs. While we’d love to see an update, there haven’t been many rumors that Microsoft is preparing to launch an updated model. That doesn’t mean we won’t get it, though some studio related. The Surface Studio 2 is rumored to be updated, which makes sense considering the 2018 release.
Then there’s the Surface Laptop 5, which seems like a safe bet. Tech site WinFuture claims that the next Surface laptop will be announced in mid-October (just in time for the Surface event) and that it will feature the latest 12th Gen Intel processors and up to a 1TB SSD . That’s not out of the realm of possibility, as Microsoft isn’t shy about updating its Surface Laptop lineup frequently. This is a laptop we’re excited about as we’ve been fans of the 13-inch Surface Laptop 4 and 15-inch Surface Laptop 4 with AMD.
Then there’s the wrench in the works: the rumored Microsoft Surface Gaming Laptop. The spec sheet leaked by Prime Gaming details everything from the dimensions to the display of the Microsoft Surface Gaming laptop. According to the spec sheet, we can expect a 16-inch (2560 x 1440) PixelSense Flow display with a 165Hz refresh rate and Dolby Vision support, all in a 14.07 x 9.65 x 0.77-inch form factor.
Prime Gaming is a leaker we haven’t come across yet, and there are questionable specs on the sheet that could turn out to be wrong, so take it all with a pinch of salt.
Will we see a Microsoft Surface Duo 3? According to Windows Central, Microsoft is considering using the same foldable design as the current Surface Duo or switching it to something similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 4. If the design is changed, it is likely to come in a different aspect ratio and thinner design.
We’ve heard rumors before about Microsoft’s scrapped Surface Duo, which was expected to be a budget model with a dual camera array and a plastic body. Images of the device appeared on a now-deleted eBay listing titled “development unit” of the Surface Duo 2. Apparently it was canceled in late 2021 to focus on the next Surface Duo device.
It’s likely that Microsoft needs more time to work on the next Surface Duo, so we might not see it at this Surface event.
We’re sure more Surface accessories will show up, but for now, everything will be revealed at the Surface October event on October 12th. Stay tuned for all these announcements.
