What you should know

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have been 6-1 against the Pittsburgh Panthers since October 2015, but they have a chance to close the gap a little on Saturday. Georgia Tech and Pitt will face off in an ACC bout at 8:00 p.m. ET at Acrisure Stadium. The Panthers should still ride high after a big win while Georgia Tech will look to get back into the Victory Column.

Last week’s matchup between Georgia Tech and the UCF Knights was not particularly close as Georgia Tech lost 27-10. Georgia Tech’s loss came despite a good play from QB Jeff Sims, who passed on 32 tries for a TD and 314 yards. That was Sims’ first 300-yard effort this season.

In the meantime, if you outperform your opponent every quarter, you’re bound to get a positive result, and that’s exactly what happened for Pitt last week. They made easy work of the Rhode Island Rams and won 45-24. No wonder the experts more or less unanimously backed the Panthers. RB Israel Abanikanda had a dynamite game for Pitt; He rushed for four TDs and 177 yards with 19 carries. One of the most memorable plays of the game was Abanikanda’s 67-yard touchdown rush in the first quarter. Unsurprisingly, Abanikananda’s strong display sent his rushing touchdown in a single game high for the season.

Georgia Tech is now 1-3 while Pitt sits a mirror image 3-1. Two stats to keep an eye on: Georgia Tech enters the competition after picking up the ball five times, good for 20th in the nation. But the Panthers come into the contest with the ninth fewest thrown interceptions in the nation all at once. These opposing strengths should make for an exciting matchup.
