The Observer tells the story of a married couple who move into their dream home, but are soon harassed by letters signed by a stalker named The Watcher. The true crime miniseries is based on The haunting of a dream house through Reeves Wiedemann, which tells the true story of the Broaddus family who, after moving into their New Jersey home in 2014, were spied on and threatened by a mysterious stalker posing as “The Watcher”. The mysterious person (or persons) was never found, and the family eventually sold their home and left town.
The Observer Stars Naomi Watts (Mulholland Drive) and Bobby Cannavale (vinyl) as the main pair. Other cast members include Jennifer Coolidge (The White Lotus), Mia Farrow (Rosemary’s baby), Margo Martindale (Mrs America), Richard Art (Big mouth), Noma Dumezweni (The doom), and Terry Kinney (invent Anna). Netflix released the first official trailer for The Observer on September 24, 2022 as part of their TUDUM event. The trailer introduces the Brannock family, who have just moved to 657 Boulevard. It’s a beautiful home in a quiet neighborhood and the family seem to be fitting in well until they receive a letter from one of the neighbors. The content of the letter begins harmlessly. But before long, they’re seeing cryptic messages like “I’ve been assigned to watch you” and “I’m the keeper,” and the paranoia sets in. While the police call the threats a prank, other members of the town urge them to leave the house, and letters from The Watcher grow more ominous, the Brannocks soon find they got more at 657 Boulevard than they bargained for .
