Shantaram will be released worldwide on Friday 14th October 2022. The first three episodes of the series will premiere on the first day of release. After that, a new episode will follow every Friday until December 16, 2022.

What is Shantaram about?

Here is the official synopsis for Shantaram:

“Based on the international bestselling novel by Gregory David Roberts, Shantaram follows a fugitive named Lin Ford (Charlie Hunnam) who want to lose themselves in the vibrant and chaotic Bombay of the 1980s. Alone in a strange city, Lin struggles to avoid the trouble he’s running from in this new place. After Lin falls in love with an enigmatic and intriguing woman named Karla, she must choose between freedom or love and the complications that come with it.”

How was the production for Shantaram?

Customization Plans Shantaram for the screen go back almost two decades. When the novel was first published in 2003, several parties expressed interest in making it into a film. Eventually, Warner Bros. bought the rights to the film and discontinued it Eric Roth to rewrite the screenplay based on the draft written by the novel’s author. Production was supposed to start in 2006 but things took a turn and plans started to be canceled in 2008.

Later in June, Apple Inc. announced that the series would be discontinued for Apple TV+. Casting soon took place in September 2019, with Hunnam, Roxburgh and Apte on board the project. Shantaram was primarily filmed in two locations, Victoria, Australia and Bhopal, India. Filming began immediately in October 2019 and was completed in mid-December 2021.
