This match determines who will represent the group in the next calendar year’s semi-finals.

Hungary are ahead and hold 10 points after five games. They started the opening window strong, going 2-1-1 with two wins over the lackluster England squad. The Hungarian side then returned on Friday with a 1-0 win against Germany to maintain their lead at the top of the group. Hungary have scored eight goals in their five games, including four in their second win over the Three Lions.

The Italians were able to keep up with Hungary as they also clinched a 1-0 win on Friday, beating England and sending them to relegation. Losing to Germany in the last game of the opening window has definitely hurt their lead as they are two points behind Hungary going into the last round of the group stage.

Italy want to reach the semi-finals for the second time in the Nations League. To do that, they would have to win straightaway on Monday, as Hungary move on if they win or draw.

In addition to a 2-1 win in their first meeting of the season, Italy have beaten the Hungarian squad in the past with a 17-8-9 score.

As mentioned, England are already relegated to League B for the 2024/25 season. That said, this game is more of a FIFA World Cup and a battle for national pride than a Nations League competition.

Germany is one of two countries yet to win a game in five competitions in the UNL. Thanks to draws against Germany and Italy, they have a point more than Wales. So far, however, they’ve only hit the back of the net once.

Although they have a glimpse of their ability to be a strong side, a loss to Hungary and an inability to lead to three draws in the end gives Germany a chance at second place at best.

This will be the 35th meeting ever between the two powerhouses. In addition to the 1-1 draw in June, Germany are 15-14-5 against the Three Lions, dating back to their first meeting in 1930.
