Werewolf at night is the latest TV offering in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and an ode to classic horror films from the 1930’s and 40’s. While some have said that Marvel’s recent offerings are a little “too monotonous,” the black-and-white, 53-minute special presentation of Werewolf by Night appears to be anything but. With Halloween on the horizon, Marvel may have the ideal companion for a witching hour served. While horror has never played a major role in Marvel’s previous releases, all indications are that a darker branch of the Marvel Universe is beginning to form. Not only will the upcoming special feature the titular Werewolf by Night (Gael García Bernal), but it is also expected to feature another monster known as the Man-Thing – an animalistic swamp monster with the power to travel between dimensions. We also see the introduction of various monster hunters, including Elsa Bloodstone (Laura Donnelly), a character who has encountered all sorts of beasts in the past, from vampires to the alien dragon-like creature Fin Fang Foom.
How many more monsters will be revealed and where this new path of the MCU will lead remains to be seen. However, if Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is to be believed, don’t expect this to be the last time Marvel will show its darker side.

Werewolf at night will be available on Disney+ as part of the third annual “hello stream (opens in new tab)“Celebrate Friday 7 October 2022. The zany celebrations will continue throughout October with a slew of spooky content, both old and new, taking over the platform in the run-up to Halloween. The 53-minute one-shot will be available on Disney+ in the US, Canada, UK and Australia 12 p.m. PT (3 p.m. ET), 8 a.m. CETand 5 p.m. AET respectively.
What is the plot of Werewolf by Night?
On a dark and somber night, a secret cabal of monster hunters emerge from the shadows and gather in the foreboding Bloodstone Temple after the death of their leader. In a strange and macabre commemoration of the leader’s life, the participants are thrust into a mysterious and deadly competition for a powerful relic – a hunt that ultimately confronts them with a dangerous monster.
Inspired by horror films of the 1930’s and 40’s, the chilling special aims to invoke a sense of horror and the macabre, with plenty of suspense and dread along the way as we explore a new corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
