Hurkacz vs Djokovic LIVE! Wimbledon 2023 latest build-up, score and updates from Centre Court
urkacz vs Djokovic LIVE!
Novak Djokovic will be confident of building on his remarkable performance on Center Court when he takes on Hubert Hurkacz at Wimbledon tonight. The defending champions have not lost at the biggest SW19 stage since losing to Andy Murray in the 2013 final and have had a perfect record ever since.
That run includes three straight wins this week, which routinely sees him through to the fourth round, with Stan Wawrinka being badly beaten on Friday night. It would be a huge shock if Djokovic didn’t show up in the final in seven days’ time, where he would win eight Wimbledon titles alongside Roger Federer.
Hurkacz reached the semi-finals here two years ago and was flawless again this week, earning a set against Djokovic when they met in the third round of Wimbledon in 2019. Follow Hurkacz vs Djokovic on Standard Sport’s LIVE blog below!
live updates
Three Set Battles on Center and Court One!
Swiatek breaks out in the decider against Bencic while Azarenka and Svitolina are still at serve.
And the little thing with Djokovic is yet to come…
Another late night to come…
Swiatek won the second set in the middle!
The decision is pending, so Djokovic and Hurkacz will have to wait quite a while.
No more night of curfew…
Two match points saved!
It’s not quite time for Djokovic and Hurkacz to step onto Center Court.
Swiatek just saved two match points against Bencic and made it into the second set tiebreak.
Brilliant game so far, played two hours and six minutes and it’s not over yet!
Over at number one…
Elina Svitolina still has work to do if she wants to extend her Wimbledon run.
She lost the first set to Victoria Azarenka and currently leads 4-3 in the second set despite still having serve.
This is the last match of the day on Court One, with Jessica Pegula and Jannik Sinner already securing victory.
Center Court update
As it stands there is no difference between Swiatek and Bencic in the second set.
The world number one earned an early break but Bencic made it again on serve and the record is 4-4.
As a reminder, the number 14 won the opening set 7-6, so she’s only a few games away from knocking out Swiatek.
Djokovic vs Hurkacz follow at the end of this game.
Murray works hard…
It’s been a busy day for Jamie Murray.
He played five sets today, four of which were in tie-breaks, and he secured victories in both mixed doubles and men’s doubles.
That wasn’t enough though – he decided he needed a little more training to finish things off.
Possible way to the final
Time to grow beyond ourselves.
Djokovic meets Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals should he pass tonight’s test after the Russian defeated Alexander Bublik in a five-set thriller earlier today.
In the semifinals it would be either Jannik Sinner or Roman Safiullin, in the final in seven days there could be Carlos Alcaraz.
The same goes for Hurkacz, of course, should he pull off a huge surprise.
Djokovic accepts the pressure
Novak Djokovic admits he feels ‘huge pressure’ ahead of every game he plays at Wimbledon but insists it will bode well for him in his quest for a 24th Grand Slam title.
He said: “Every time I step onto the court, especially Grand Slams and Center Courts, I obviously feel a tremendous amount of pressure and high expectations from myself, from the people around me watching live or on TV, from the whole tennis world.” Right?
“It’s a feeling I’ve gotten used to now, and I embrace it because it motivates me even more to strive to make more history.”
Bencic takes it!
If Swiatek makes it past the fourth round at Wimbledon for the first time, she’ll have to do it the hard way.
The world number one is in trouble in the center, Bencic made the tiebreak 7: 4 and played excellently. The surprise is great.
Tie-break time!
There is a match between Swiatek and Bencic on Center Court.
Almost an hour is played and the first set goes into the tie-break, Bencic really puts the number one in the world to the test.
It looks like we won’t see Djokovic and Hurkacz until around 7:30 p.m. at the earliest…
