“I’m not in a rush to confirm anything”- Former F1 race director Michael Masi denies rumours linking him to Supercars Commission in Australia

Former F1 racing director Michael Masi has dismissed reports linking him to the role of chairman of Australia’s Supercars Commission. Former Supercars Commission chairman Neil Crompton left his position on June 30 this year, and multiple reports say Masi is set to replace him.

However, when asked about it, the former F1 race director denied it. Masi also refused to confirm or deny possible new developments.

“Really? These are just rumours,” Masi said. “There have been a number of things that have appeared from all corners of the world. There have been a number of things that have appeared from the wood and I’m in no hurry, confirm any of it.”

When asked to elaborate on the offers, Masi gave a rather cryptic response without giving much away, saying:

“Some are surprising, some not so surprising, but equally we will just continue to evaluate any little things that come up, and there are many. I’ve received a number of offers from all corners of the world and a number of exciting opportunities have arisen.”

Earlier this year, Eugene Arocca, CEO of the Australian Sport Federation, said that was the case would welcome the former F1 race director back into their flock. Masi used to be part of the organization before moving to the FIA. Arocca said:

“He’s just an elite talent that would be wasted on the sport if not used in some capacity and that’s why we’re keeping an open mind. At the moment, of course, we are concentrating on the year ahead and when he has made up his mind what he wants to do, he will be contacted not only by us but also by others, no doubt among many others.”


What could former F1 race director Michael Masi’s new role be?

Michael Masi is reportedly set to become chairman of the Supercars Commission of Australia. The tasks of the commission include:

“The Supercars Commission regulates the technical and sporting rules in the Aussie category and their recommendations then go to the Board for final approval.”

According to the report for motorsport.com, The appointment of the former F1 director is subject to the approval of team owners at Sandown.

“According to multiple sources, Supercars is in the process of having Masi’s appointment approved by the team owners at Sandown this weekend.”

Michael Masi’s career suffered a major blow after the 2021 F1 Abu Dhabi GP. He lost his job as race director and had to move back to Australia. He now hopes to get things back on track.
