Discussion points and analysis on Day 2 between India and Australia

Ashwin Double Strike brings India back into play

A long-standing partnership between Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green (114 of 170) ended at the hands of Ravi Ashwin.

The Australian duo completed 208 runs over the opening two days before Ashwin caught a swipe from Green’s glove which was caught from behind the stumps by Srikar Bharat.

Alex Carey replaced the 23-year-old on the crease and unfortunately didn’t last long for the visitors.

Carey (0 of 4) tried to lift the ball over the blankets but caught a thick edge and was taken by Axar Patel for a duck.

Ashwin delivered exactly what India wanted in a two-wicket maid-over and put the home side back in the game.

Not long after, right arm spinner Mitchell Starc challenged as the Aussies began to fall rapidly.

Green’s first barrel to remember

Cameron Green has reached heights he’s never had before, hitting the elusive 100 runs in a Test match and surpassing his 84 at the SCG in 2021.

Green – who was Khawaja’s Batman’s Robin in the fourth Test – rushed into the century with 146 balls and played brilliantly through the covers for the first two days.

After seven 50s, the 23-year-old finally made his breakthrough and rightly so.

Green came in when Australia was 4/170 and has taken them to a strong 350 total with Khawaja counting at the other end.

Khawaja hits another milestone

Khawaja’s innings just keep getting better and better as he hits the 150-run mark.

It’s been an emotional century for the veteran opener, who has struggled for his place in the team, particularly overseas, over the past decade.

However, Khawaja has put all the doubters and silencers to bed and helped set the Aussies up in the final Test of the Tour of India.

World rallies for Australian cricket captain Cummins

Australia Test captain Patrick Cummins has had to return home after some disturbing family news.

It is with a heavy heart that Cummins and his family announced the sad death of his mother, Maria.

In a touching tribute to the nation’s captain, the Australian cricket team issued the following statement:

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Maria Cummins overnight. On behalf of Australian Cricket, we send our deepest condolences to Pat, the Cummins family and their friends. “The Australian men’s team will wear black armbands today as a sign of respect.”

The cricket world showed their support for Cummins and her family.
