International Cricket Council announce Australia men’s future tour program
The International Cricket Council today published the Future Tours Program for men. The announcement is on the back cover of the women’s FTP that was released yesterday.
“We are delighted to have secured extensive, quality content for both the women’s and men’s programs in schedules that encompass many of our key Australian cricket priorities,” said Peter Roach, Cricket Australia’s Head of Cricket Operations and Scheduling .
Five Test Border Gavaskar series promises to fuel Australia-India rivalry
The new program will feature an extended Test series against India while maintaining the traditional November-February window to host games in Australia.
“Breaking the Test Border Gavaskar series to five is a significant milestone and will greatly enhance the ongoing rivalry and respect between the Australian and Indian men’s teams,” Roach said.
“Importantly, most of our home content remains within our traditional male and female window, including a largely uninterrupted international window for the WBBL and greater flexibility for Australian players to compete in the BBL.
“The continued success of our men’s and women’s teams has played a key role throughout negotiations for both FTPs and ultimately assured Australian cricket fans of consistent quality international cricket for years to come.”
Meanwhile, Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley proclaimed the new program a triumph that will deliver a packed calendar both domestically and internationally.
“We have seen the strength and popularity of bilateral international cricket in bringing people together and promoting the global game with recent tours to Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Ireland,” he said.
“We’re enjoying a strong calendar of Test matches counting toward the ICC World Test Championship, including five match series for the Ashes and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
“It is particularly gratifying to confirm multi-format series for our women’s team, with the opportunity to play test matches and a full program of international white ball cricket for both teams.”
