Before attempting to cancel an email
For this feature to work, you must be using the Mail app to send and receive emails. Unlike standalone third-party email apps like Gmail, Apple’s built-in Mail app lets you manage all your email accounts from a single place, including:
- iCloud
- MicrosoftExchange
- Yahoo!
- AOL
- outlook
To add your existing email account to Mail, open the Settings application and go to post > accounts. Here you can add your account, which will then appear in the Mail app.
How to send an email on iOS 16
In the Mail app, go to the inbox of your chosen account (tap on Inbox to see all), then compose a new email. Compose your email as usual – add a recipient email address, subject, body and any attachments – then click the blue button at the top right to send your email.
Once you’ve done this you should be sent back to your inbox. You can see the words at the bottom of the page Undo Send in blue. By default, you only have 10 seconds to press this button to undo your recently sent email, or it will be irretrievably sent and you won’t be able to get it back.
if you meet Undo Send, you will be returned to your email where you can correct errors or add missing attachments and then resend the email. As before, you have 10 seconds to undo the email if another error occurs.
This gives you more time to undo an email on your iPhone
The way the don’t send feature works is that instead of actually sending the email and then getting it back, you simply have a buffer time between hitting the send button and actually sending the email. As mentioned above, the default time is 10 seconds, but you can go into your settings to increase this buffer.
In the Settings app, go to post > Undo Send Delay and then choose a delay time:
- Out of
- 10 seconds (default)
- 20 seconds
- 30 seconds
If you choose the Off option, you won’t be able to use the Don’t Send feature in the Mail app.
