Ireland star Craig Casey’s famous sporting uncle, girlfriend Jenny and opening up about his height
At just 23 years old, Craig Casey is already making a name for himself in the world of rugby.
The Limerick-born star made his Six Nations debut against Italy in 2021 and is now a regular for the Boys in Green and his club Munster.
Here’s a look inside the player’s rugby beginnings, his famous uncle and what he has to say about his height.
His start in the game
Craig started playing rugby with Limerick club Shannon Rugby RFC where he was coached by his own father Gerry until he was under 15.

Craig spoke about his father’s influence on his rugby career in an interview with Rugby World, saying: “He’s played a huge part in my development. Even now he’s a great person to have conversations with where he can give me honest feedback on games.”
Craig played rugby through school and captained his secondary school, Ardscoil Rís Senior Cup Rugby Team.
After school, Craig represented his Munster province on the pitch before being called up to the Ireland rugby squad in 2021.
His girlfriend
Craig’s girlfriend Jenny is a pharmacist and the Irish player often shares photos of the couple on his social media.
The couple celebrated their anniversary in June, with Craig captioning a picture, “One year of fun and 10 years of transplant. Happy Anniversary” published.
His rugby star uncle
Not only was Craig coached by his father at an underage level, but he also has another impressive connection in the rugby world.
His uncle Mossy Lawlor also played rugby with Muster and won over 60 caps with the southern side.
The two faced each other in the past when Craig’s model team played against a team from Connacht coached by his uncle.
His size
At just 5ft 5, Craig comes under the average height for a rugby player, but speaking to Pandit Arena, he made it clear that his height doesn’t stand in his way.
Craig told the sports media platform: “I love the challenge of being small.
“You’re looking at Faf de Klerk and Aaron Smith, probably the two smallest in the world, and they’re absolutely brilliant too, so they’re the two I looked at to try and improve my game.”
