Is Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury happening? The Ukrainian’s manager gives latest update

From now on, Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury is in limbo.

The Cat and The Gypsy King are currently in talks for an April 29 showdown. However, the two have been in talks for a long time since Usyk’s win over Anthony Joshua last August. The pair were aiming for a December clash but due to the Ukrainian’s injury, the fight went to Derek Chisora.

The WBC Heavyweight Champion defeated “Del Boy” last December and had a starerdown with his defending champion in the ring. After the event, both Usyk and Fury confirmed they were close to completing the matchup.

Three months later, the fight is still unconfirmed. There are currently several issues holding back competition. Namely, the revenue split, the rematch clause and the date for the fight. While Usyk felt revenue should be split down the middle, Fury disagreed.

Tyson Fury has stated he will only fight if he can have a 70/30 split in his favor and there is no rematch clause. To his credit, Oleksandr Usyk has agreed to these demands but is unwilling to push the target date to April 29.

In a recent interview with Steve Kim, Usyk’s manager Egis Klimas gave an update on the situation. He explained:

“We’re tired and we have commitments with other combatants, we don’t want to keep them… We have to fight on April 29, like we agreed, like we discussed for three months. We are going to attach to the contract that is 70-30 for April 29th. If this fight is moved to another date, it won’t be a 70-30 deal, it’ll be a 50-50.

Oleksandr Usyk sends a message to Tyson Fury

Oleksandr Usyk has declared that the ball is with Tyson Fury.

Up to this point, ‘The Cat’ has largely agreed to ‘The Gypsy King”s recent demands. Even a 70/30 split for their historic heavyweight championship reunion matchup.

Because of this, the Ukrainian and his team seem frustrated. Usyk’s team recently announced that they had a deadline of this weekend to make the fight official.

While not as big into trash talk as Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk took to Twitter earlier today to send a message. The heavyweight champion stated that he and his team did everything they could to make the matchup happen.

According to Usyk, when the fight doesn’t take place, it takes place in The Gypsy King.

The points of agreement were sent to Fury’s side. The deadline is fixed. The clock is ticking. It’s the ball’s turn #greedbelly‘s page now. We have done everything in our power to make this possible @Tyson_Fury
