Is the New Hellraiser Streaming on Amazon Prime or Hulu?
The 80’s gave us unforgettable horror movies like predator, the glow and child’s play. There’s no question that the decade was filled with terrifying films that stood the test of time. You can find evidence of their longevity in the modern remakes, reboots, and reinterpretations that each film has gone through; predator found a hugely successful prequel in 2022 prey, The glow had a sequel in the 2019 film doctor sleepand Chucky out child’s play for nowStars in a popular Syfy TV show.
One film you may not have remembered from the past few years, however, is Hellraiser. The film first premiered in 1987 and subsequently had not one, not two, but nine sequels. Unfortunately, most films failed to recapture the magic of the original film. The sequel 2018, Hellraiser: Judgmentmaintains a critical value of 36% Rotten tomatoesand most installments prior to this film featured even worse critical pans.
So it’s a little surprising that there’s now another attempt to revive the franchise. But to be fair, you can’t beat the source material. Based on the novella by acclaimed horror author Clive Barker The heart of hell, the film follows a family who moves into a new house, only to discover a strange puzzle box. Once unlocked, the crate summons a group of aliens called the Cenobites, who seek to provide humans with both painful and pleasurable experiences – though they cause far more pain than anything else.
Luckily, the reviews for 2022 are positive Hellraiser. It currently holds an 85% viewership rating Rotten tomatoes. That’s all to say that kicking off the spookiest month of the year is definitely worth it. We’ve got everything you need to know if you want to see the new film.
is Hellraiser a reissue?
The new Hellraiser is not an exact remake of the original 1987 film. While it shares the same premise (a couple move into a new home and discover the puzzle box), it changes the main characters’ relationships and backgrounds, and overall offers a new perspective on Barker’s novella. You won’t be spoiled by watching the original 1987 version, and you don’t need to watch any of the other sequels to get the story.
