Jalen Hurts shares thoughtful message after Eagles lose Super Bowl 57 to Chiefs: ‘You either win or you learn’

Jalen Hurts did whatever it took to get the Eagles to win. He set multiple Super Bowl quarterback rushing records and threw for more than 300 yards as he led Philadelphia’s offense to 35 points, with 24 coming directly from him.

It wasn’t enough. His Herculean performance came close as the Chiefs outlasted the Eagles and hit a late field goal to earn the Super Bowl 57 win 38-35 and halt Philadelphia’s 2022 breakout season to a win just short of a title.

“Either you win or you learn,” said Hurts after the defeat. “It’s something I know will motivate me.”

Hurts couldn’t do much more to lead the Eagles to victory. He finished the game having completed 27 of 38 passes for 304 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions. He ran 15 times for 70 yards and scored three more times on the ground.

Hurts became the first quarterback to score three touchdowns in the Super Bowl and only the second player overall to accomplish the feat. He joined Terrell Davis in running the ball in three times in Super Bowl 32 in a 31-24 Broncos win for Packer. He also joined Colin Kaepernick and Joe Montana as the only quarterbacks, both of whom rushed for at least 50 yards with 300 passing yards in the big game.

His counterpart, Patrick Mahomes, had nothing but praise for the performance Hurts put on.

“If there were still doubters, there shouldn’t be any now,” Mahomes said. “I mean, the way he stepped onto that stage and ran, threw the ball, whatever it took for his team to win, I mean that was a special feat that I didn’t see in the loss they had I mean even when we had all the momentum in that game and went up eight points in the fourth quarter he had to react and take his team straight down to the football field and do it himself for the 2- Earn points conversion. It was a special achievement from him man and you make sure you appreciate that when you look back on this game.

However, it wasn’t a perfect night. The only blemish on his night came in the second quarter when he tried to shift the ball from his left hand to his right in a QB tie and he lost footing, coughing up a fumble that resulted in a game-defining scoop -and-score touchdown by Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton.

“I always hold myself to a very high standard in everything I do,” Hurts said of the fumbling. “Obviously I try to control the things I can do. I touch the ball every game. Obviously you want to protect it. It hurt us. It hurt us. You never know what game it’s going to be.”

Hurts ended his post-game press conference by answering a question from 15-year-old podcaster Gio The Podcaster, asking him what the biggest takeaway from the game was.

“Man, I think you want to cherish those moments. You want to cherish those moments with the people who have made you come this far. You know the family, your loved ones, your teammates, your colleagues, everyone you do it with and you do it for that.”

I’m so proud of this team. I’ll say I’m so proud of this team for everything we’ve been able to overcome. Of course, at the end we had a big time goal that we wanted to achieve and we fell short.

“The beauty of this is that everyone experiences different pains, everyone experiences different anguish in life, but you decide if you want to learn from it. You decide if you want to use this as a teachable moment, and I know what I’m going to do.”

Hurts’ perspective should make Eagles fans optimistic about the future, regardless of the outcome of Super Bowl 57.
