Responding to a post by senior journalist N Ram, Sundar said: “…I had my mind changed with greater awareness long ago. Since then I had corrected my stance and even joined the BJP to support their cause. So I have no hesitation in apologizing and have long since moved on. Let them have fun hitting the dead snake!”

Following Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification as a Lok Sabha MP for equating the Modi surname with ‘thieves’, the party quickly picked up Khushbu’s old tweet. Rajya Sabha party leader and MP Digvijaya Singh asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi via a Twitter post on Saturday morning: “Are you going to get one of your students named Modi to file a defamation lawsuit against Khushbu Sundar as well?”

The actor-turned-politician hit out at the opposition party, saying she was speaking the “language of the Führer” at the time she was told so, and questioning her “desperation”.

She has not deleted the five-year-old social media post and will not do so now, she said.

Sundar said it showed how desperate the opposition party was. The National Commission for Women (NCW) member’s 2018 tweet went viral and she didn’t delete the post.

Sundar, also a member of the BJP national executive committee who left the Congress party and joined the Safran organization in 2020, had posted a tweet in 2018 that said: “… Let’s change the meaning of #Modi to corruption… fits better. “

Explaining the tweet, Khushbu said: “I was in the Congress party at the time, just doing my duty as Speaker of Congress. This is the language we were meant to speak, and that’s exactly what I did. I followed the party leader. That is his language.”

“This not only shows how desperate they (the Congress party) are, but also reveals their ignorance of the issue they are raising,” she told PTI news agency.

When asked if she saw nothing wrong in insulting the surname ‘Modi’, she said: ‘Rahul Gandhi stooped to the plains and called all Modis thieves. I only used the term ‘corruption’. The Congress party is unable to see the difference. But if they have the courage, I urge congressional leaders to file a case against me, and I will face them legally.

Sundar also pointed out that the Congress party never liked it when they appreciated the positive steps taken by the ruling BJP.
