KC Current players sport armbands in support of Ralph Yarl

The Kansas City Current players showed their support for a young shooting victim on the field Sunday. The women’s pro soccer team slightly adjusts their uniforms to raise awareness of the shooting of KC teenager Ralph Yarl. To show their support for Staley High School Junior and his family, current players will wear black armbands for their April 23, 2023 matchup against Orlando Pride. The club posted pictures of players wearing the armbands on Twitter. The 16-year-old is back home and recovering after being shot while trying to pick up a sibling from the wrong address in Kansas City. The shooting drew protests and national attention after police and prosecutors failed to immediately charge homeowner Andrew Lester with shooting Jarl. The club also shared a GoFundMe donation link supporting Yarl and his family during his recovery. The fundraiser has raised nearly $3.5 million in just over a week since its inception. Clay County prosecutors eventually charged Lester with the shooting after receiving indictment documents days after the shooting.
